Dear Speech Coach,

We hope that you will be joining us on November 21st for the 2nd Burbank Cinematic Universe Tournament. Instead of fighting those Thanksgiving calories, we will be fighting the bad guys--early season jitters, mistakes made by double entries, early Saturday morning wake-ups, Covid-19, and Thanos. Here are the details for the tournament.

SCHEDULE--AAAAHHHH! This is tricky, and we will update information when we know it!

THE UPDATED SCHEDULE

WEDNESDAY, 11/19

Head Coaches should enter hired judge info--name, email, + phone number--we have discovered that we can save a lot of time and confusion by contacting judges directly if we have questions.

Extemp/Imp prompts will be posted at 4:00 p.m. Radio scripts should be prepared on Wednesday as well and should contain news that is only 24 hours old.

THURSDAY, 11/20--> Video Links due by 10 p.m.

You must post the pre-recorded video links to SpeechWire for all competitors. PLEASE CHECK THAT LINKS ARE WORKING before submitting. We will make no adds after 10 p.m., and if videos are not submitted by this deadline, entries will be dropped from the tournament.

Please title each video with the name and the event--NOT THE SCHOOL.

FRIDAY, 11/20

Rounds will be released to all judges by 5:00 p.m. Judges will have until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning to judge their assigned rounds remotely.

SATURDAY, 11/21

Because a round takes about an hour to judge, our tab room will be contacting anyone who hasn't opened at least one round by 8:15 a.m.

There will be a final round which will begin around 12:30p.m. (using the same pre-recorded videos from prelims). We hope to have a Varsity, a JV, and a Novice final round. JV and Novice can qualify for the Varsity final. This means we will need a total of 70 judges at that time, so please make sure your hired judges know they need to be available.

Awards will take place around 2 p.m., and we will provide a link on SpeechWire.

THE JUDGING

Each team will need one judge for every 6 competitors.

*IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your hired judges are at least three years out of high school (a college junior). Individuals who are 1-2 years out of high school will not be allowed to judge.

ENTRY INFO

Each school may have unlimited entries in each event. Entry fee is $175 for a team of 28-41, $225 for a team of 42-55, or $275 for 56+.  Make checks payable to Reavis High School.  You must pay before your kids perform!

RULES
Once we know more about limited prep events in this virtual format, we will send that information.

AWARDS
The top 6 (or more in the case of a tie) contestants in each event will advance to finals.  After the final is broken, we will identify a JV final round and a Novice final round for each event.
