Dear Speech Coach,

We hope that you will be joining us on November 21st for the 2nd Burbank Cinematic Universe Tournament. Instead of fighting those Thanksgiving calories, we will be fighting the bad guys--early season jitters, mistakes made by double entries, early Saturday morning wake-ups, Covid-19, and Thanos. Here are the details for the tournament.

SCHEDULE--AAAAHHHH! This is tricky, and we will update information when we know it!

THE SCHEDULE

More information will be forthcoming for your hired judges with instructions on judging an asynchronous tournament, but here is what we know for now:

-Contestants will be required to pre-record their performance and upload them to the tournament portal BEFORE Saturday, November 21st. This deadline is tentatively listed below.

-Registration for all judges will begin at 7:00a.m. on Saturday, November 21st.

-Rounds will be released to all judges by 8:00a.m. Judges will have until 1:30 p.m. to judge their assigned rounds remotely.

-There will be 3 preliminary rounds for each event (pre-recorded contestant videos)

-There will be a final round which will begin around 2:30p.m. (using the same pre-recorded videos from prelims). We hope to have a Varsity, a JV, and a Novice final round. JV and Novice can qualify for the Varsity final.

-Awards TBA, but will be most likely  in a live stream format.

THE JUDGING

Each team will need one judge for every 6 competitors.

*IMPORTANT: Please make sure that your hired judges are at least three years out of high school (a college junior). Individuals who are 1-2 years out of high school will not be allowed to judge.

ENTRY INFO

Each school may have unlimited entries in each event. Entry fee is $175 for a team of 28-41, $225 for a team of 42-55, or $275 for 56+.  Make checks payable to Reavis High School.  You must pay before your kids perform!

RULES
Once we know more about limited prep events in this virtual format, we will send that information.

AWARDS
The top 6 (or more in the case of a tie) contestants in each event will advance to finals.  After the final is broken, we will identify a JV final round and a Novice final round for each event.

CONFIRMATION
We will keep Speechwire Registration open until 8:00 pm on Friday, November 20th. Please make sure your entries and names are as up to date as possible. Any drops after that time, please e-mail one of us at the addresses listed below, or call Kate Szczudlo at the number listed below.
