Welcome to this crazy time right now in the Speech world!  The Thornton Township High School Speech Team is pleased to invite you to the 36th Annual Thornton “Turkey” Tournament to be held on Saturday, November 21, 2020.  We are looking forward to a great tournament and are excited to run an efficient and organized tournament just as we have in the past.  

Preliminary information regarding the tournament is listed below.   The tournament will include three preliminary rounds and a final round.  Right now we know that the preliminary rounds will be asynchronous.  We are still deciding on the final and may have a synchronous final round on Saturday.  More details to come.

We look forward to having you be a part of this tournament. 36th Annual Thornton “Turkey” Tournament Information

Contest Rules

The Thornton “Turkey” Tournament will follow I.H.S.A. rules for all individual events with the following exceptions:

Team scoring: Preliminary round scoring will determine team placements. The top two scoring contestants in each event will count toward your total team point tabulation.  Due to the current situation, duets are invited to compete for individual awards but will not be counted in the team tallies.  Furthermore, any student competing in a duet is invited to be triple entered.  Triple entries will only be allowed if a student is competing in DDA or HDA.

Awards: The awards ceremony is TBD.  We are hoping to do a live awards show on a streaming service.  This information will be forthcoming.  

 

Judging: Each team will need to furnish the following number of judges based on individual entries:

1 – 6 Entries:         1 judge

7 – 12 Entries:        2 judges

13 – 18 Entries:       3 judges

19 – 24 Entries:       4 judges

25 – 30 Entries:       5 judges

31 – 36 Entries:       6 judges

37 – 42 Entries:       7 judges

43 – 48 Entries:       8 judges

If it is beyond these entries, please pay close attention to the number of judges needed to support your number of entries.  

 

Each team will be responsible for the number of judges based on the number of entries you submit following the submission deadline.  Also, to assure proper coverage, please advise all hired judges that they will need to be available for final round judging whether synchronous or asynchronous.
