View manager contact information SFCFL 1: Online | October 17, 2020 The virtual Speech & Debate world invites you to the 1st virtual SFCFL tournament on Saturday, October 17, 2020. Remember, you must be a paid member of SFCFL to attend this tournament. Membership information and applications may be found at sfcfl.org Additionally, any student who wishes to compete at the Grand Final Tournament in March must attend one complete SFCFL tournament. ENTRY LIMIT: 10 entries in each category. DOUBLE ENTRY IS ALLOWED IN SPEECH EVENTS. STUDENT ENTRY FEE: $8.00 per student payable to SFCFL. JUDGE REQUIREMENTS: 1 judge for every 5 IE (including Congress), and 1 judge for every 2 debaters or fraction thereof, but you cannot mix TD, PFD, WD or LD judges. Please make certain you have the correct number of debate judge. REGISTRATION DEADLINE: Enter online at www.speechwire.com. Entries will be accepted through Tuesday October 13, 2020. Changes and drops may be made until Thursday, October 15, 2020 at 10:00 a.m., but you will be charged the entry fee for any student originally entered. The web site will be closed Tuesday night. TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE: Registration will be online and require just a verification of entry. We will offer 5 rounds of competition in all events (3 rounds in Novice/Varsity Team Debate) and 3 sessions of Congressional Debate and 4 rounds of World Schools Debate. All judges must be register via Speechwire account by the deadline Wednesday October 14, 2020. Speech rounds will be judged beginning Thursday October 15 - Saturday October 17, 2020 at 1:00 p.m. All speech judges should complete judging by 1:00 p.m. on Saturday and submit ballots. Speech (non-live) entries are not required to show up during these sessions. For live events we will follow this schedule (links to live events will be provided each student account; hence students must have access to their accounts to compete): 9:00 a.m. Round 1 10:30 a.m. Round 2 12:00 p.m. Round 3 1:30 p.m. Round 4 3:00 p.m. Round 5 EVENT TOPICS: LINCOLN DOUGLAS DEBATE (Varsity/Novice) 2020 September/October Topic: Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory. PUBLIC FORUM DEBATE (Varsity/Novice) 2020 September/October Topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should enact the Medicare-For-All Act of 2019. POLICY DEBATE 2020-2021: Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing. Legislation will be posted on www.sfcfl.org under the link "Topics & Legislation.” EXTEMP TOPIC AREAS: American Buisness, Environmental Issues (Domestic/Foreign), Foreign Terrorism, U.S. Congressional Elections, U.S. Domestic Social WORLD SCHOOLS MOTIONS: This House regrets the dominance of the two-party system in American politics. This House regrets China's investment in Latin America. This House opposes the use of military personnel to respond to civil unrest. This House would provide a universal basic income.
