We are excited to invite you to Brecksville-Broadview Heights on January 9th, 2021! Note: Although SpeechWire is currently showing our tournament as a 2-day event, we will only be hosting our tournament on Saturday, January 9th. There will be no competition on Friday, January 8th. I am working on fixing this.
Date: Saturday, January 9th, 2021
Events: All 13 OSDA HS events
All OSDA MS events
Locations: Congress will be held via Zoom. Debate and Extemps will be held via NSDA Campus. Speech categories for both middle and high school will be asynchronous through SpeechWire.
Registration: Please register via Speechwire. We are accepting unlimited entries. Students may double or triple enter in speech events; however, students may not enter BOTH extemps due to extemp being synchronous.

MS Speech--Four rounds
HS Congressional Debate--Two sessions
MS Congressional Debate--Two sessions
LD and PF--Four rounds
Policy Debate--Three rounds
MS Extemp Debate--Four rounds
Schedule:
8:00 to 8:30AM Registration
8:30AM - Extemp Draw
9:00AM - First round for everyone.
3:30PM - Awards via a link that will be provided earlier in the day
Awards: The top six in each category will receive a digital badge. We will also present Team Sweepstakes awards to the top six teams.
Judges: We will use the typical judge ratios of 1:5 for speech, 1:2 for debate and 1 for each school with Student Congress Entries. We ask that everyone do their best to provide judges so that the tournament runs as smoothly as possible. There will be no fees for missing judges, but please provide them. We are planning to have previous competitors available for judging before they go back to college, and encourage other schools to do the same.
Registration Fees: We are charging $5.00 per student; $10 per Duo, PF, and Policy team. These fees apply to both middle and high school competitors.
Topics:
Policy debate will debate the 2021-2022 topic.
LD and PF will debate the January topic and
High School Congressional Debate will utilize the January 9th legislation.
MS Congress will be using legislation numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, and 13.
Deadlines: Adds and drops should be entered by 9 pm on Thursday, January 7th. There will be a $5 fee for drops after this time.
Asynchronous videos should be submitted by 9 pm on Thursday, January 7th. This will give us time to check each video to make sure that it works.
Asynchronous Video Instructions
Once you have registered your speech students in SpeechWire, you can click the link that says "Video Links," located between "Update Your Entries" and "Update Your Judges." Any student who is competing in an asynchronous category will have a box to enter a link. Links can be from either YouTube or Google Drive.
If it is YouTube, the video does not have to be public; when uploading the video, students will have the option to make it publicly searchable or only available to those with the link. Either is fine, since judges will have the link.
If the link is in Google Drive, make sure students have the permissions set to "Anyone with link can view." If students are uploading from school computers, there are often default settings that change it to "anyone in network can view," but this will pose a problem for TAB staff and judges. They can change the permissions when they click "share."
Asynchronous students do not have any obligations on Saturday, so they can sleep in!
