Jefferson High School Speech Team enthusiastically invites you to the 7th Annual Top of the State Speech Tournament on January 30th, 2021.

 

This is an unprecedented year, with a multitude of challenges.  This year's Top of the State will reflect that.  I have always run ToS as that last tune up for Regionals; an opportunity for regional competitors to go through their pieces one more time, for coaches to make those final roster decisions, and for non-regional team mates to get one last round under their belts.  That will be my guiding philosophy for ToS this year as well.  As such, we will be adopting the live that the IHSA will use; awith live, synchronous rounds and finals.  

 

In keeping with our "regional prep" philosophy, this tournament will match as close as humanly possible whatever format the IHSA decides on for the State Series.  We will strive to give competitors and coaches the most useful experience possible to prepare for the following weekend.  I will try to hold off on the exact dates and platforms if possible so we can mirror IHSA regionals in all aspects.

 

Whatever it turns out to be, we will make it the most valuable and approachable tournament we can be.  We will certainly keep coaches apprised as the situation clarifies.  Some decisions have already been made, however.

 

1 - to simplify what has become an increasingly difficult process, our "bonus events" will be put on hold this year.

2 - physical AND electronic (e-badges) awards will be used this year

3 - entry fees will be reduced this year to $125 for ALL teams, regardless of size (rather than the $150-$200 in years past)
