Dear Forensics Colleagues:

You are cordially invited to join us for the first annual Bulldog Tournament, to be held October 10th synchronously via Jitsi Meet/8x8. Our past tournaments have attracted a wide variety of colleges and universities; therefore, we hope schools looking for an excellent day of competition will join us this October. Both current and alumni members of the Concordia University, Nebraska Speech Team as well as members of the Nebraska Intercollegiate Forensics Association will join in harboring hosting responsibilities.

We plan to offer two rounds of AFA individual events with appropriate elimination rounds. The schedule is constructed with wellness in mind. And we will be upholding a (virtual) open door policy for competitors, judges and observers in rounds.

Tournament Rules – AFA/NFA regulations will govern their respective events, unless specified elsewhere in this invitation.

ADA Accommodations – If anyone has concerns about accessibility virtually, please contact Joe Davis. He will gladly seek out accommodations as needed.

Entry Deadlines – All entries will be submitted using SpeechWire. Entries are due by 5:00 p.m. (Central Time) on Tuesday, October 6st, 2020.

Entry Fees – Fees will be assessed at noon on Wednesday, October 7th.

The following fees will be assessed for competing each day of the tournament:

  • $8.00/Individual Event slot

Drop Fees – A $5 dropped entry fee will be assessed for drops made after 5:00 pm Friday, Oct. 9th CST. Substitutions within events are NOT considered drops. Any judge drops made after 5:00pm CST on Oct. 8th will be charged a $50 fee. Schools are responsible for paying their full fees.

Commitment One judge can cover up to six I.E. slots. Judges are committed through finals.

Uncovered Entries –uncovered judge fees will be assessed at $15 per event. We have a small pool of hired judges, so bring your judges and not your money!

Available JudgesWe REALLY want you to bring judges and can pay additional judges $15.00 per IE round.

All competitors in individual events compete in open division. All events with 8 or more competitors will have a final round. Events with more than 35 competitors will have a semifinal round. Two preliminary rounds of competition in all eleven AFA Individual Events will be offered in these flights:

Pattern A:     Extemporaneous Speaking, Informative, After Dinner Speaking, Prose, and Poetry.

Pattern B:     Impromptu Speaking, Persuasive, Communication Analysis, Dramatic Interp, Program Oral Interp, and Duo Interp.

Students are limited to six (6) individual events slots (limit of two duos), with no more than three (3) per pattern.

*The tournament reserves the right to institute and utilize event caps based on the number of teams and number of entries at the registration deadline.

This year, in an attempt to bring some uplifting color into your world we will be offering custom made fiber art rainbows as awards. *More details can be found on speechwire.

Individual Events – Awards will be presented to the top novice in each individual event.

Additionally, the top three Individual Events Sweepstakes speakers will receive awards. To be eligible, individuals must participate in three Individual Events.
