You are cordially invited to SFCDI #2 to be held on-line Thursday, November 12, 2020. This is a 2 round tournament from 4-7PM.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE MONDAY, NOV 9 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

• Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Nov/Dec 2020 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.
• Public Forum Debate-We will be using the Nov/Dec 2020 topic: Resolved: The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use.
• Congressional Debate-Legislation for the tournament has been provided to coaches
• Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking*-Topic areas include: The US Constitution and International Treaties.
• Impromptu-Topics are Fall and Holidays

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

• Declamation*
• Duo Interpretation*
• Original Oratory*
• Poetry
• Dramatic Performance* (Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation)

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Monday, November 9, 2020.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
