This is a High School tournament in Florida.

You are cordially invited to SEFCDI #1 to be held on-line Wednesday, November 4, 2020. This is a 2 round tournament from 4-7PM.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE MONDAY, NOVEMBER 2, AT MIDNIGHT.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Nov/Dec 2020 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.
  • Public Forum Debate-We will be using the Nov/Dec 2020 topic: Resolved: The United States should adopt a declaratory nuclear policy of no first use.
  • Congressional Debate-We will provide legislation. A legislation packet can be found in the Files to Download tab.
  • Mixed Extemporaneous Speaking*-Topic areas include: 2020 Elections and Domestic Energy & the Environment

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Declamation*
  • Duo Interpretation*
  • Oral Interpretation of Literature* (1 round poetry/1 round prose) Be sure to upload poetry recordings in the first box and prose in the second box.
  • Dramatic Performance* (Dramatic and Humorous Interpretation)
  • Original Oratory*
  • Informative Speaking

*Denotes events which will use CFL rules. All other events will use NSDA rules.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Sunday, November 1, 2020.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
