This is a High School tournament in Florida.

You are cordially invited to NWFCDI #1 to be held on-line Wednesday, Nov 11, 2020. This is a 2 round tournament from 5PM-7PM CST.

We offer middle school and high school novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

REGISTRATION WILL CLOSE SUNDAY, NOV 8 AT 6PM.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Nov/Dec 2020 topic: Resolved: The United States ought to provide a federal jobs guarantee.
  • Congressional Debate-Legislation can be found in the Files for Download tab

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • OO Original Oratory
  • POI Program of Oral Interpretation
  • HI Humorous Interpretation
  • DI Dramatic Interpretation
  • DEC MS-Middle School only Declamation

We will use NSDA rules for these events.

Please note that due to late school starts due to Covid measures, the NWFCDI will allow the use of scripts in all events at this 10 Oct event, but this is NOT the practice for tournaments outside of NE or NW Florida, nor will it be the practice for future tournaments in the NW FCDI Region. 

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Sunday, November 8, 2020.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
