This is a High School tournament in Florida.

You are cordially invited to NEFCDI #1 to be held on-line Wednesday, October 7, 2020. This is a 2 round tournament from 4:30-7PM.

We offer middle school and novice competition for all Florida schools regardless of whether you are a participating program in the Florida Civics & Debate Initiative. There is no fee to join our league and our entry fees are low.

EVENTS and DIVISIONS: If numbers allow, we will offer separate middle school and novice divisions. We reserve the right to combine divisions. If we combine divisions, we will offer a Best Middle School Award in addition to the usual awards.

LIVE EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Lincoln Douglas Debate-We will be using the Sept/Oct 2020 topic: Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.*
  • Impromptu Speaking*
  • Just Talk (MIDDLE SCHOOL ONLY EVENT)**

ASYNCHRONOUS (PRE-RECORDED) EVENTS INCLUDE:

  • Social Justice and Equity Original Oratory**
  • Poetry Interpretation*

*We will use NSDA rules for these events.

Please note that the NEFCDI will allow the use of scripts in all events at this Oct 7 event, but this is NOT the practice for tournaments outside of NE Florida.

Instructions on how to upload speech/inter videos can be found on the “Files for Download” page. Videos must be uploaded by midnight, Tuesday, October 6.

JUDGES: Adults, coaches, and qualified varsities with at least 75 NSDA points may judge. Judges need to be trained. They may take the NSDA judge training course if they did not attend any judge training. It is the affirmative duty of the coach to ensure that all judges (except students) must be approved as volunteers through their district’s volunteer system.

COACHES: Coaches must be available for the duration of the tournament.
