Dugaw Smelt Classic
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a College tournament in Washington. View manager contact information
Colleagues,
I hope that this message finds you well as we near the end of this challenging fall academic term. We are a week away from the Dugaw Smelt Classic registration deadline, and I wanted to take a moment to reach out with a handful of updates.
Schedule: after consulting with some of the amazing folks who have been managing our virtual tournaments this fall, we have decided to adjust the tournament schedule to allow a bit more time for each round. Please find this updated schedule in the attached tournament invitation.
AFA-NST: The speech portion of this year's tournament will serve as the fall District Qualifier for AFA District II. The top three competitors from District II will earn automatic qualification to the AFA National Speech Tournament.
Registration:
Entry Deadline: 11:00pm PST Monday, November 30th
Drop Deadline: 7:00pm PST Wednesday, December 2nd
Divisions: At the time of registration, you may enter your competitors as Novice, Junior, or Open in all categories. However, in accordance with requirements for AFA district qualification, all speech events will be fully collapsed. It is my personal priority to find as many ways to celebrate our novice and junior competitors as possible. At a minimum, the top competitors in lower divisions will be acknowledged at our awards ceremony.
Fees: If entry fees are a barrier for your program's participation in our tournament, please let me know. Fee breaks are available for programs with tight budgets.
If you have any questions or need clarification about anything, please do not hesitate to reach out... and forgive me if I ultimately outsource your question to Joe, Dan, JCo, or Mike.
While I lament not being able to host this year's tournament on our campus in Longview, I hope that the virtual format makes this tournament more accessible for some folks who would not have been able to travel during this busy time of the year. If your program is planning to attend, I will look forward to spending some virtual time with you in a couple weeks. If not, I hope that you have a warm, safe, and well-deserved break. I'll look forward to catching up in the new year.
Be well,
Alex Brehm
