Dear Friends and Colleagues,

The coaches and students at Illinois State University are pleased to invite you to attend the Last Chance tournament on Sunday March 8, 2020 (for our District V friends, this is the day AFTER our District tournament).

We are excited to be offering all 11 AFA / NFA events.    We will have novice sections in any NFA event that has at least 9 varsity and 5 novice entries.

We hope to see you in March for one last little bit of Normal before Nationals!

Sincerely,

Megan Koch

RULES OF EVENTS

GENERAL:   All programs and speeches must not have been used by a student in any competition (high school or college) prior to September 1, 2019.  Novice divisions will be offered in events that have at least 9 varsity and 5 novice entries.  A novice is a student who has no intercollegiate forensics experience prior to September 1, 2019.  Competitors must be undergraduates working on their first degree.  We will be following the rules and ethical standards of the National Forensics Association. For event descriptions or clarification of rules, please visit: https://sites.google.com/site/nationalforensicsassociation/about-nfa/governing-documents

ENTRIES:  Each student may enter a maximum of six events.  Flights will be arranged to minimize cross entry, while best using rooms and judges.  There is no limit on the amount of entries a school may enter per event; however, for schools with larger entries we may have to artificially move competitors to utilize judges from that school.

Events Offered
Extemporaneous Speaking       Informative Speaking
Persuasive Speaking       Impromptu Speaking
Duo Interpretation       Dramatic Interpretation
Prose                       Communication Analysis
After Dinner Speaking       Poetry
Program Oral Interpretation

The deadline for receiving entries is 5:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 3rd.  Drops will be accepted after the deadline without penalty until noon Wednesday, March 4th.   Changes based on tournament performance on Saturday March 7th will be allowed; we just ask that they are reported Saturday night.

Entries should be posted to Speechwire

JUDGES & FEES:  Entry fees are $5.00 per entry slot.  Drops will be accepted free of charge until noon on Wednesday, March 4th.  After March 4th drop fees will be charged at the whim of the tournament staff (but seriously, if someone is sick, please reconsider traveling them; we won't charge you).

Each school should furnish one judge for every six slots.  Hired judges are available at $10.00 per uncovered slot (hired judges will be paid $10.00 per round).  We will gladly pay any clean judges a school can provide beyond their obligation to ensure better ballots for your students.  Judges dropped after the Wednesday, 12:00 p.m. deadline will result in a nuisance fee of $25.00 each plus the additional cost of hiring a judge.  Judges dropped at registration will result in a $75.00 nuisance fee plus the additional cost of hiring a judge.  ALL fees are assessed as of 5pm Tuesday March 5th.

Checks should be made payable to ISU Forensics.  Online credit card payments can be made at the following link (it will not supply a total; please make sure you know what you owe): https://secure.touchnet.com/C20868_ustores/web/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCTID=1650&SINGLESTORE=true

AWARDS:  To keep costs down, we will not be giving out trophies for finalists.  Your qualification will be your award!

ATTIRE:  This is a "come as you are" tournament - no need for suits!
