District Speech Tournament - March 7, 2020

Hamilton Southeastern HS, 13910 E 126th St, Fishers, IN 46037

 

Events - 

  • DI, HI, Duo, USX, IX, Info, OO, POI, Big Questions Debate
    • BQ debaters may NOT double in Speech events
  • Each event must have at least  4 competitors from 2 different schools
    • Big Questions must have 10 competitors from 2 different schools
  • The top 2 finishers in each event and the Big Questions winner, in each district will qualify for the NSDA National Tournament in Albuquerque, NM

 

Eligibility - 

  • Participation is open to schools who have registered and paid dues to NSDA prior to the start of the tournament
  • Students must be paid members (having earned 25 points) prior to the district tournament entry deadline.  All necessary fees must be submitted to the national office by this deadline.
  • Students must be officially registered as an NSDA  member user with a valid, unique email address on the organization website.
  • Coaches must complete a Single Entry Letter of Intent for students competing in multiple events (including Debate and Congress)

 

Entries - 

  • Each team may enter up to four entries in each event 
  • Schools have a designated allocation of entries to split between the Speech and Debate District Tournaments.  A coach can check their number of district slot on the NSDA site by clicking on their district from their School Profile page.

 

Registration -

  • We will be using Speechwire.com for registration and tabbing of all District Tournaments
  •  Registration will open on _Feb 18___________.  
  • Entries and judges due on ____ March _4____________


 

Fees - 

  • Teams must pay a fee of $5 per entry.  Checks should be made payable to Hoosier Heartland District or Hoosier Crossroads District
  • Please bring payment to the tournament, DO NOT MAIL

 

Judges - 

  • Teams must bring one judge for every 3 Speech entries
  • Teams must bring one judge for every 1 BQ Debate entry
  • We will be using e-ballots, please include judge email addresses when registering
    • Please do NOT use Comcast emails, they don’t work with Speechwire

 

Scripts-

  • Please bring all script materials in a sealed manila envelope to submit at registration. Envelopes will only be opened if a protest occurs. All materials will be returned at the end of the competition.
    • Interp competitors (Duo, DI, HI, POI) must provide the original source of all material and a photocopy with all lines highlighted with pages in order of performance.
    • Please make sure that any online source material is on the Approved Websites List
  • OO and Info must submit printed manuscripts with updated bibliographies 
  • If there is a question of the legality of a script, please contact the committee prior to the tournament registration deadline.

 

Tournament Structure - 

  • We will be using the NSDA Pilot Rules
  • BQ will have 4 prelim rounds and then break to a single elim bracket
  • All other events have 3 preliminary rounds breaking to a final round of 6
  • Events with more than 28 entries will break to a semi-final round
  • 2 judges in each prelim, 3 in the final round
  • Extemp will draw every round
