Impromptu Topics  7 Minutes Rolling Time (no prep need be shown on the video)

(Two choices-Pick one)

  1. The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing. -Walt Disney

  1. If you set your goals ridiculously high and it's a failure, you will fail above everyone else's success. -James Cameron

Impromptu Counseling

(2 choices-Pick 1) 3 prep/5 speak  (No prep needs to be shown on the video)

  1. Dear Blabby:

I am on a diet and have lost over 20 pounds thus far. I am very pleased with my improved appearance and my enhanced energy level. However, I have a problem that has developed over the last few months. I find myself binging secretly on, of all things, cat treats and dog treats. I eat them and within an hour I’m in the bathroom battling intestinal issues.  I like their taste (I’m a big carnivore) but it’s called “Cat Food” for a reason and I’m aware this could be problematic to my long term health, but it has also helped me lose a lot of weight.  My closest friends think I need to get counseling for an eating disorder. I say they are being “catty!”-what do you think?

  1. Dear Blabby:

I am required to stay in my home under house arrest for the next 2 months.  I was involved in a minor drug transaction and got caught (my first offense). I’m wearing an ankle monitor and there is an electronic fence system that tracks my movements in my yard and across my property.

This would all be fine except that I have an ex-girlfriend who acts like she really wants to get back together. She calls and texts me all the time, drives by, stops, and beckons me to cross over the “line” to talk with her. On several occasions, the police and my parole officer have arrived, during our chats, and warned me to “stay in my lane.”

It is so hard because I have very strong romantic feelings for her and it killed me when we broke up.  I am also not allowed to let unapproved visitors into the house. She just finished drug rehab and so her presence is not approved by my legal minders. What should I do?  Is it worth risking an extension of my sentence to get closer to her?  I am so torn and so in love!

Impromptu Storytelling  (3 prep/5 minutes Speak)

2 choices-pick 1

  1. (3rd Person Narrator)

Jorge burst out of the coffin, bursting the last nail with his bruised fingertips.  As he arose from the box his eyes widened in fear as he recognized….

  1. Carla’s normally friendly and loving dog, Blintz, was snarling and hissing as she entered the house, after working a long 10 hour work shift at Waffle House, and as the lights turned on, by themselves, she shrieked in alarm at the sight of…

Impromptu Eulogy

2 Choices-Pick 1

3 minutes/5 minute speak  (No prep time need be included in the video)

Scenario 1:

Stephen Hawking (no relation) served for 20 years as the chief caretaker for an historic structure that held the largest pigeon coop in the world. These pigeons weren’t bird brains they were combat intelligence gatherers for the US Military during conflicts in Kuwait, Iraq, and Syria.

Oliver’s job was to feed, care for, and debrief these aviary military veterans. He died (at age 77) when he fell off the roof while clearing droppings from a drainpipe.

A 3 Star General was supposed to perform Stephen’s eulogy, but she got called back to Washington to update the President about suspicious crop circles discovered near the Ukranian border.  You have been asked to fill in at the last moment-how will you remember Stephen?

Scenario 2:

Hillary Dungeness was a bit of a “Karen.”  She was fond of showing up at school board meetings to decry the mandatory mask requirements imposed at the local elementary school and dismiss the value of vaccines. Hillary had a good heart that she routinely wore on her sleeve.  She loved shopping and worked at a local Goodwill Store as a clerk, where she enjoyed a 15 percent employee discount on all clothing purchases.

Hillary loved seafood. But, while enjoying an all you can eat Crab and Lobster buffet experienced a severe allergic reaction to peanut oil used to grill the crustaceans, she was revived, but was hit by an ice cream truck a day later.

The Local Director of  the “End Masking Now” coalition was supposed to give Hillary’ s eulogy but was called away to a major public protest in Washington at the US Capitol.  You were just passing by the funeral home to visit a friend who works there when the Funeral Director asks if you would fill in to give a fitting eulogy for Hillary. You have heard of Hillary, but don’t know her well-how do you put something together to remember this “Freedom Loving  American.”

Extemp Topic Choices;

Six choices pick 1.  7 minutes. Prep does not need to be included in the recording.

1-Ron DeSantis: Will the Florida Governor emerge as the leading GOP candidate for President?

2-Coal: Why is this fossil fuel experiencing a resurgence in use?

3-The SAT: Will recently announced reforms promote greater college admissions equity?

4- The Sandy Hook Verdict: Will a huge penalty against Remington reduce the number of mass shooting incidents?

5- Cryptocurrency Investment: Should the average American add Crypto to their retirement portfolio?

6- Omicron Declining: Does this signal the end of mass casualties from Covid?
