General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a College tournament in Minnesota. View manager contact information Dear Forensics Colleagues: You are cordially invited to participate in the 1st and 2nd Valley Forensic League Tournaments of 2017-2018, to be held Friday, December 1 and Saturday, December 2, 2017 in Marshall, Minn. at Southwest Minnesota State University. Competition is being offered in all 11 AFA individual events for each part of the swing and Parliamentary Debate competition will be held offered at VFL #2 on Saturday. Refreshments will be provided for you and your teams each day. The entry deadline is Monday, November 27, 2017 at 9:00 p.m. A nuisance fee of $10.00 will be assessed to changes made after 12:00 p.m. on November, 28. The VFL will recognize the finalists in each event, the top novice competitor in each event, and the top 3 teams. • Membership in the VFL is $125 for this year. This fee covers all entry fees (but not uncovered judging fees) for the season and student refreshments. One judge covers six individual events slots or a portion thereof. Schools are asked to try to cover all slots to cut down on hired judging costs. • All judges are expected to assist in judging final rounds. • Each uncovered individual event slot will incur a $12 fee. • A $20.00 fee will be charged for each slot changed at registration. Events and Conflict Patterns The tournaments will be using the AFA Individual Events rules. Flight A: Dramatic Duo, After Dinner Speaking, Prose Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Impromptu Speaking Flight B: Program Oral Interpretation, Dramatic Interpretation, Communication Analysis, Poetry Interpretation, Persuasive Speaking, and Extemporaneous Speaking Parliamentary Debate: Those participating in Parliamentary Debate may not enter IEs on Day 2. Individual Events: Students who are only entered in Individual Events may enter up to 2 events on Day 1 and may enter up to 2 events in both Flight A and Flight B. Triple Entries are discouraged in one flight pattern, but may be allowed at the discretion of the tournament manager. This is to balance room and judge availability. Awards Sweepstakes points will be given for finalists and elimination round participants only. Points will be allocated in the following way. IES 1st-12 points 2nd-10 points 3rd-8 points 4th-6 points 5th-4 points 6th-2 points Parli 1st-12 points 2nd-10 points SF-8 points Registration location information, and campus maps, will be sent with confirmation emails.
