WFCA State Tournament (POSTPONED)
Invitation 2020 WFCA State Tournament April 3-4 2020 Host: Eau Claire Area School District
To Wisconsin Forensic Coaches, You are invited to enter your students in the 2020 Wisconsin WFCA State Tournament. Eligibility - All participating schools must be a member of the WFCA. If you have questions regarding eligibility, please contact me. Location – This year’s tournament will be hosted by the Eau Claire Area School District. Specifically, the Student Congress portion of the tournament will be held on Friday, April 3rd at the Eau Claire City Hall and public Library, while the remainder of the tournament competition will be held on Saturday, April 4th at Eau Claire Memorial and North High Schools. All details about location information can be found on the Speechwire home page of the WFCA State Tournament, under “additional information pages.” Entries – Each school will be allowed 25 entries with no more than four entries in any category. (for Student Congress, each school is allowed up to 16 entries.) Students are not permitted to double enter categories. Only one team per school will be allowed in the tournament. Any bona fide pupil in good standing and in regular attendance in the 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th grade of the member school shall be eligible to compete. Categories – All WFCA sanctioned categories and category rules will be used. Format – The State Tournament shall consist of three preliminary rounds, a semi-final round, and a final round for each category. This year’s tournament will hold all preliminary rounds in conjunction with each other. In other words – Round one for ALL events will be at 9:00 am, round two at 10:15 am and round three will be at 11:30 am. Fees – An entry fee of $10 per individual entry, $15 per group entry, and $10 per congress contestant shall be charged. A fee of $15 will be charged for any changes occurring after the posted tournament close time. Schools who have not paid fees by the end of May will be assessed a $35 processing fee. If the fees are not paid by the end of June, an additional fee of $50 will be assessed. Judges – All schools participating must provide 1 judge for every 5 entries (or fraction thereof). A Tournament Provided Box lunch costs $7 and includes a sandwich, chips, carrots, apple slices, cookie, and choice of milk or water IMPORTANT: All box lunch orders must be placed on Speechwire by March 19 (3:30 pm)
Awards – Awards will be presented to all of the finalists, and semi-finalists. Sweepstakes trophies will be presented to the top six Division 1, 2 and 3 schools based on State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction (DPI) school enrollment for that school year. Student Congress – All Student Congress information will be coming separately from the Student Congress Director. Deadlines – Registration is open now on Speechwire.
State Tournament T-Shirts – We will be selling T-Shirts commemorating this year’s State Tournament (The 50th WFCA State Tournament) We will be taking advance orders for the T-Shirts. We will have some available for purchase at the State Tournament, but I cannot guarantee you will receive T-Shirts unless you pre-order them. Additionally, we will have other items available for purchase on the day of the tournament (water bottles, totes, coffee mugs and key chains). Online Information – There will be live postings of schematics - that everyone will be able to access online during the tournament. If students and/or judges wish to receive live updates via text/email, they will need to create a personal subscription (they will only be able to subscribe after registration has closed on Monday, April 1.) Postings will also occur in the traditional method via paper postings. Confirmation – A confirmation communication will be sent out to all registered teams on Wednesday Evening, April 1. That confirmation will contain additional information including: Saturday check-in details, specific logistics of student drop-off and transportation between buildings, details of which categories will be in which building, Maps to distribute to students and judges, Impromptu round themes, Extemp round topics, as well as student codes and more information. So please watch for that communication and please share it with your students.
