On behalf of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) we would like to invite your team to attend the 2016 Jean Braden/Ernst Season Wrap-Up Tournament.

The tournament will take place on the Alexandria, Virginia campus of Northern Virginia Community College on Friday March 4th, 2016 extending into the early afternoon on Saturday March 5th, 2016. 

In addition, we are also proud to serve as your tournament location for the AFA District 7 Qualifier that will occur (following the Braden Wrap-up) on Saturday afternoon on March 5th, 2016. Please see the speechwire website for specifc information regarding the 2016 AFA District 7 Qualifier as there are a few procedural differences between the two tournaments.   Below is information regarding the Ernst/Braden Wrap-up Tournament.

 

Entry Rules Regulations and Procedures for the Braden/Ernst Wrap Up ONLY

 

1)            Open to all schools (2 year and 4 year colleges)

 

2)      We will be using AFA-NIET tabulation rules for all individual events.  Pattern A: Extemp, Informative, Persuasion, Poetry, POI, & Duo,   Pattern B: Dramatic, Prose, CA, ADS,&  Impromptu

 

3)       Students may enter up to three events per pattern. Extemporaneous speakers may only double enter in Pattern A.  Two duos count as two events.

 

4)         Schools may enter an unlimited amount of students in each event.  

 

5)         Fees are $8.00 per slot.  One judge is required for every 6 slots.  Judges may be hired for $10 per slot. Please make every effort to cover your entry.

 

6)            The deadline to submit entries via Speechwire is Wednesday March 2nd, 2016 @ 5:00 pm

 

7)            No adds will be permitted after the deadline. Drop fees will be kept at minimum ($3 per IE drop after the deadline, $20 per judge drop after the deadline)

 

** NOVA STUDENT PARTICIPATION** -  NOVA will have students competing at the Braden Ernst Wrap-Up, but NOVA will be ineligible for sweepstakes awards.

 

NOVA will provide light snacks on Friday afternoon and light breakfast on Saturday morning. Coffee and tea will be available throughout the tournament. Schools will need to make arrangements for lunch delivery on Saturday as the campus cafeteria will likely be closed on Saturday and Sunday.

 

*** Regarding directions ***

 

PLEASE REMEMBER THE TOURNAMENT WILL OCCUR ON THE NOVA ALEXANDRIA CAMPUS.  Due to construction of a new Building on Beauregard Street, NOVA advises that schools use the entrance that can be reached via exiting on Seminary Road from I-395.   From I-395, take the Seminary Roa Exit and follow Seminary Road to Dawes Avenue and turn right.  The Bisdorf Building will be on your left at towards the end Dawes.  Please park in the covered lots on Dawes Avenue that are directly across from the Bisdorf Building. Registration will occur in Bisdorf 158, which is the center building.
