Dear Coaches,

The Buffalo Grove Speech Team is proud to invite you to the Winter Warmth Tournament on January 9th, 2016. We will run a standard varsity tournament with 3 preliminary rounds and finals. Will follow IHSA rules for all events. Additionally team awards will go to the top 5 schools based on finals. In order to eliminate judging shortages we will split the tournament into A and B events with no more than 6 in a section.

**UPDATE** We will be running small sweeps with awards for the top 3 teams based on preliminary rounds. Teams that have 15 entries or less will be considered a small school. Also, judges will be fed breakfast & lunch. 

**UPDATE**   The tournament schedule was changed to make everything run more efficiently. Students are still allowed to be triple entered! The only change is that they cannot be entered in both radio and extemp. This will open more events up to students. Final rounds will be flighted. Rounds will be be 90 minutes which is plenty of time for all triple entered students to make it to their rounds and judges to check in afterwards. There will be only finals. No next-in.

It is your responsibility to make it work for your student. I will ask that judges wait for contestants that may be double or triple entered, but the tournament will need to go on. If a round has reasonably ended...it will have ended and your student may not be ranked that round. As far as finals and next-ins go, a contestant may be tripled.

Extemp and Radio will prep twice and choose one for the third round. There will also be a prep for finals. We are allowing electronic retrieval for Extemp; we'll have prep monitors to facilitate this.  We will allow students to use tablets or laptops, but they may not use smartphones for this task. If students are found accessing Internet sources at the tournament or using pre-written speeches stored on their electronic devices, the monitor will inform the tab room and the student in violation may be disqualified. All over/under time in radio will be adjusted in the tabroom.

*A student may not double enter in Radio and Extemp.

*Please submit ten (10) Extemp topics via SpeechWire prior to December 18^th.

Impromptu topics will be provided and conestants will be timed by the judge who needs to provide their own timer. Only the contestant and the judge may be presnt during the round.

Judges:

1 qualified judge per 6 entries (if incremental, please round up).

Need to rent a judge?  Please let us know.  We have a limited number of judges available for a fee of $120 for the day. 

Entries/Fees: You may enter up to two entries per event. The entry fee is $160 per team.

This year we will be again taking donations of mittens and winter outerwear for charity.  The items collected will be donated in the name of every school that participates to WINGS, a shelter and resource for homeless and abused women and children. 

Concessions: Pizza will be sold to students.

Online Registration will close on Saturday, January 9^th at 6:00am.  All entry changes after that point need to be called or sent by TEXT to Sarah Goldenberg 847-409-7573.
