On behalf of Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) we would like to formally welcome you and your team to attend the 2015 Jean Braden Season Wrap-Up Tournament. This tournament will take place on the Alexandria, Virginia campus of Northern Virginia Community College on Friday February 27th, 2015 & Saturday February 28th, 2015. 

We are also proud to serve as your tournament location for the AFA District 7 Qualifier that will occur (following the Braden Wrap-up) on Saturday February 28th, 2015 & Sunday, March 1st, 2015. 

****Please note there are important differences between the Braden Wrap Up Tournament and the AFA District 7 Qualifier.  What follows below is an explanation of the procedures for the 2015 Braden Season Wrap-Up Tournament.   Teams will have to enter the AFA-District 7 Qualifier separately and abide by the posted rules for that tournament.


Entry Rules Regulations and Procedures

2015 Braden Season Wrap-Up Tournament

1)    Open to all schools (2 year and 4 year colleges)
2)      We will be using AFA-NIET rules (not pattern designations) for all individual events. 
3)    Groupings: Group A: Extemp, Persuasive, POI, Duo, Poetry, Informative.                
                   Group B: Impromptu, Dramatic, ADS, Comm. Analysis, and Prose
4)    Students may enter up to three events per pattern. Extemporaneous speakers may only double enter in Pattern A.  Two duos count as two events.
5)    For the Braden Season Wrap-Up, there will be two preliminary rounds and finals for each of the listed groupings. 
6)    Fees are $8.00 per slot.  One judge is required for every 6 slots.  Judges may be hired for $10 per slot. Please make every effort to cover your entry.
7)    The deadline to submit entries via Speechwire is Wednesday February 25th, 2015 @ 5:00 pm
8)     Drops after the deadline will be assessed a $3 fee.
9)     Schools may enter as many students in a single event as they like.
10)    We will use AFA tabulation rules for the tournament.
11)     **Please note the accelerated concurrent schedule on Friday evening for rounds 1B & 2A. Student competitors should make every effort to sign into rounds.

Recognition & Awards

Awards will be presented to all finalists. The top five schools will receive an overall school sweepstakes award. The Braden Season Wrap Up Tournament will also present the top three individual speakers at the tournament with an award.  To qualify for consideration a student needs to be entered in at least three events.

Tournament will provide light snacks on Friday afternoon and light breakfast on Saturday morning. Coffee and tea will be available throughout the tournament. Schools will need to make arrangements for lunch delivery on Saturday as the campus cafeteria will likely be closed on Saturday.
