The New London Forensics Team is pleased to welcome you to our annual Student Congress on Friday, March 13th and Forensics Tournament on Saturday, March 14th, 2015.  

 

EVENTS AT THE HS: Demo, Duo, Extemp, Group Interp, OIL, Oratory, Play Acting, Poetry-Experienced, Prose-Experienced, Radio, Solo Humorous, Solo Serious, and Storytelling.

 

EVENTS AT THE MS: Four Minute, Moments, O.Dec, Prose Reading (NOVICE), Poetry Reading (NOVICE), Special Occasion.

 

*Buses will shuttle people between the MS and HS.

 

*Concessions will be available for purchase in the commons at the HS.  Food for coaches and judges will be available in the Judges' Lounge at the HS in B119.  Food/beverages will NOT be available at the MS.

 

*Registration - 7:00 - 8:00am, Extemp/Radio Draw - 8:15am in HS Library, ROUND I ALL EVENTS: 8:45, ROUND II ALL EVENTS: 10:00, ROUND III ALL EVENTS: 11:15, POWER ROUNDS : Approximately 12:45pm, AWARDS: 2:45pm.

ENTRIES: Each school may submit up to 25 varsity entries. No more than 4 varsity entries per category. NOVICE Prose and NOVICE Poetry have been renamed "Prose Reading" and "Poetry Reading" this year. These two NOVICE events will be offered to FIRST YEAR forensics students only.  Double entries are allowed, but it is the student's responsibility to inform the judge of their status.  Double entry IS allowed in Extemp and Radio, but double entry in Extemp AND Radio is not allowed.  

 

ROUNDS: Draw will begin promptly at 8:15am for Exemp and Radio. Round I will begin at 8:45am, Round II will begin at 10:00am, and Round III will begin at 11:15am.  Power round times will be posted and may vary by event. 

 

FEES: Entry fees are $9.00 per individual entry and $12.00 per group entry. Schedules will be adjusted to account for adds and drops until 4:00pm on Friday, March 13th.  We will do our best to accommodate any late adds that occur beyond this time, but not all late adds may be honored due to space limitations.

 

JUDGES: Each school must provide one judge for every five entries or portion thereof. We have a limited number of hired judges available for you at a cost of $100 per judge. Teams with over 50 entries/10 judges are required to hire judges from the tournament. Total entries are not capped.

 

AWARDS: Individual trophies will be awarded to the top three finishers in each category. All finalists will receive medals. Team trophies will be awarded to the the top three large teams, top three medium teams, and top three small teams with a minimum of 5 entries.

 

RULES: All WFCA rules will be followed. Please note changes from last year. We will offer Oratorical Declamation. NCFL rules and critiques will be used.  If you are interested, more information on this event can be found at: http://www.ncfl.org/declamation

 

FOOD: On Saturday, food will be provided for judges and coaches in room B119 of the high school.  In the event that we use two buildings for competition, there will NOT be a hospitality room located at the middle school.  Additional food will be available for purchase in our commons area at the high school. 

 

STUDENT CONGRESS: Student Congress will run on Friday evening.  Please email entries AND legislation to mervin@newlondon.k12.wi.us by Friday, March 6th, at 5pm.  I will email all legislation to participating schools as soon as all legislation has been submitted. Dinner is included in registration fees and a Lent/vegetarian-friendly option will be available. Congress entries will not be reflected in your Speechwire invoice but should be added when you submit your registration fees to your district's financial office. Please note: New London is also hosting the NCFL Student Congress qualifier on this date. Please keep this in mind and register your participants accordingly. Any entries for the NCFL Congress qualifier must be sent to Ron Steinhorst at rsteinhorst@waupacaschools.org.
