IUPUC and Ivy Tech Columbus
3rd Annual Invitational Speech Tournament
Saturday, December 6, 2014

Location:  Joint campus of IUPUC and Ivy Tech (for online map reference, please use 4555 Central Ave., Columbus, IN  47203)

Time:  First round starts 8:30am

Format:  Four straight rounds of competition

Events:  Broadcasting, Declamation, Discussion, DX, FX, Dramatic, Humorous, Impromptu, Prose, Poetry, Original Oratory, Original Performance, Memorized Duo, Scripted Duo, Improvisational Duo (2-min. prep, 3-min deliver), and Congress

Doubling:  Permitted in all events except for Discussion.  However, students may not participate in two IHSFA Duo events (i.e. cannot do Mem Duo and Scripted Duo OR one of the Duos and a duo OP).

Tripling: Only permitted if the third event is Improv Duo.  In other words, a Mem Duo OR Scripted Duo CAN also do Improv Duo.

Discussion will follow the IHSFA Socratic seminar format. Artifacts will be released one week prior to the meet. They can be found in the “Files to Download” section of SpeechWire.  There will be no prep time prior to the start of the round.

Broadcasting:  Contestants should bring a two-minute newscast.  Contestants should also write a two-minute editorial and one-minute commercial.  The prompts for these will be posted one week prior to the meet on Speechwire.  Format will be as follows:
Rd 1:  Commercial
Rd 2:  Editorial
Rd 3:  Newscast
Rd 4:  Breaking news bulletin (cold read)

Each school is allowed 5 entries per event.  Team entries will be capped at 40 per school. Overall cap for the tournament will be 300 entries total.  We are doing this primarily because there aren’t many spaces available to congregate in large groups on the campus.

Judges:  Please provide one (1) judge for every five (5) entries or fraction thereof.

Congress will debate bills 4, 8, 12, & 14.

Trophies will be awarded to the top ten teams, ribbons to the top ten contestants in each event.

This meet will take place in three or four campus buildings—we encourage that your students wear comfortable shoes.  Please make sure your teams are in authorized areas throughout the day.

Concessions will be available throughout the day.  Fast food or restaurants of any kind are 2-5 miles away, so please avail yourselves of our food to help us offset the costs of our meet.

The meet will be managed through SpeechWire.  Registrations due by Monday, December 1 at 5pm.

All questions about this meet should be sent to cehs.speech@gmail.com or mcrothro@iupuc.edu.  Or call Matt at (812) 343-7533 or (812) 375-7528.

We look forward to hosting you on our campus on Dec. 6!
