THIS TOURNAMENT HAS BEEN CANCELED.
Hello, Speech Coaches,
It is with great pleasure that we invite you to the inaugural Plainfield North Fall Classic on Saturday, November 22, 2014. This tournament will showcase all fourteen IHSA events and follow IHSA rules. Novice and Varsity competitors are welcome; however, there will not be separate finals for each. Registrations will be on a first-come, first-served basis, so act early to secure your team’s spot.
**********
Rosters: In light of space considerations, please accept or decline this invitation through your SpeechWire account, or via email (harley.brook@gmail.com) by October 24th. Please be as precise as possible with your roster projections as they affect the number of teams we can accommodate.
**********
Schedule: We will provide an updated schedule and drop-off and pickup information after registrations are complete; however, this is the day’s tentative schedule:
**********
Entry Fees and Judge Numbers: Either send or bring with you a check (made out to Plainfield North High School) for the following amount:
If sending checks by mail, please mail attention to:
Harley Brook, Plainfield North Speech Team
12005 South 248th Avenue Plainfield, IL 60585
**********
Judges: Judges will keep time in Radio Speaking, Extemporaneous Speaking, and Impromptu Speaking. Please ensure they have their own stopwatches. Also, please make sure your judges know how Impromptu Speaking runs. Please pay attention to judging assignments; all judges will be used in each flight and must wait for all finals assignments to be posted before leaving. Even if there are drops, you are still required to provide the judges from your original confirmed entry. You will be responsible for the fee of a judge if you do not bring enough. A limited number of hired judges are available at the rate of $90 for the day.
**********
Limited Preparation Events: Extemp and Radio will prep once for preliminary rounds and a second time for finals. Please make sure your competitors are aware of the rules, as they will be enforced. Please notify us in advance if you have a speaker double-entered in Extemp and Radio so SpeechWire can schedule accordingly. IHSA guidelines for Impromptu Speaking will be followed. (Two minutes of prep time with the judge on-hand, followed by five to six minutes of speaking.)
**********
Finals and Awards: Rank alone will be used to advance individuals to finals. Fewer than six may be advanced to keep the final round below nine participants. Judges’ preference will be used to break ties in finals. All finalists will be awarded and awards for the top five teams in the sweepstakes will follow. Team sweepstakes will be based on preliminary round scores for each school’s top two entries as indicated by the head coach. Plainfield North will not compete in the team sweepstakes.
**********
Tab Room: Please take no offense, but the tab room will be by invitation.
**********
Concessions: A variety of food and beverages will be available for purchase throughout the day.
**********
Roster Confirmations: Please confirm final numbers in each event in SpeechWire by noon on Thursday, November 20th. Entries will not be added past this time. Once the tournament is scheduled after Thursday’s confirmation, rounds will *not* be balanced due to drops, and drops made past noon will not affect judge numbers. After noon, you are still required to bring the number of judges from your original confirmation.
We are excited to be hosting this tournament and hopeful that we will see both old friends and new faces in attendance on November 22nd!
