Greetings everyone, below is information pertaining to the MDL side of the joint 2014 Southeastern WI NFL Qualifier/January MDL.

**If you want to register for the National Forensics League qualifier, please go to Joyoftournaments.com now. This is only for the separate, non NFL qualifier divisions**

How to Register: Please note-all MDL Varsity teams must begin in the VSS qualifier division and must register on Joy of Tournaments. 2 ways you can register if you are entering into NSS OR if you’d like to enter teams into VSS, LD, or PF that are not being entered into the NFL Qualifier division first:

1. Register online via Speechwire.com. If you're new to Speechwire, you'll need to create an account. From there, you should be able to directly register for the 2014 Jan MDL.

2. Email your registrations (team partnerships/divisions/judges) to Bill Altorfer (billaltorfer@urbandebate.org) directly.

Registration Deadline: Wednesday, January 1st at 7PM. We understand changes happen, but if you can register by the deadline, even if it's a rough count, it's immensely appreciated :)

Registration Fees: For non-MDL schools who are entering into the non-qualifier divisions, we'll be charging a small registration fee to cover our costs of running the tournament. Novice Switch Sides Entry fees are $30/two-person team and $20 per maverick entry (mavericks are allowed to win).

Non-qualifier entries for VSS, LD, and PF will be $10 per student. VSS mavericks can win. The registration fee is drastically less because there will not be trophies provided. Please note, Round 1 & 2 of LD/PF and Round 1 of VSS may be very, very small until people are eliminated from the qualifier divisions and are moved over.

Checks can be made out to the Milwaukee Debate League. We'll have invoices prepared upon your arrival at the tournament, but if you'd like one earlier, we can do that too.

If you begin in the qualifiers division: you do NOT need to pay an additional registration fee. After your elimination from the qualifier, if you wish to continue competing, an adult representative from your school needs to let the MDL tab staff know ASAP. If after competing for a few rounds you decide that you are done debating for the day, an adult representative again needs to clearly let MDL tab staff know.

WDCA State Leg: The tournament will function as a state qualifying tournament. For students who begin in the National Qualifiers, they must debate in 2 of the 3 non-qualifier policy rounds OR 3 of the 5 non-qualifier PF/LD rounds. The rounds they competed in during qualifiers do not factor into them qualifying for state, only the non-qualifying rounds count towards the leg for state.

Meals: The entry fee includes breakfast, lunch, and snacks for participants.

Novice guidelines: In order to compete in the Novice division, debaters must be in their first year of high school debate.  Novice Packet Limitations: Debaters will be limited to using arguments found in the Wisconsin Novice Packet. That said, counterplans will not be runnable in the Novice Division at the 2014 January MDL.

Judging: Per usual, we ask that you bring one judge for every two teams. *Note-this is a different ratio of judges/entries than the NFL qualifiers division.

As always, feel free to shoot me any questions should they come-up -- I'm happy to do my best to answer them.

We're very excited to be working in conjunction with the Southeastern Wisconsin National Forensics qualifier. A pre-emptive thank you to Melissa Haas, Nasif Rogers and Justice Platt for hosting this large undertaking. We're looking forward to it -- we hope you are too!
