The Howland Forensics program is pleased to be hosting the 20th Annual Amy Lowe Memorial Tournament on Saturday, December  21, 2013.  Last year’s charity affair raised about $1500.00 in donations, toys, and food…so we are doing it again!

Currently, we are offering 4 rounds in all IE and 5 rounds in Debate (time permitting).
We will be hosting a student congress.  If entries warrant, we will have two preliminary sessions and a super congress.  WE ARE CURRENTLY ACCEPTING REGISTRATIONS IN POLICY DEBATE FOR OUT OF DISTRICT SCHOOLS.  If you are registering policy, do so early so we can see if it is viable.

Schools may enter unlimited entries in all individual events and 10 total entries in debate (Let me know if you have more).  You will be notified if we CANNOT accommodate you. PLEASE CONFIRM AND ENTER TENTATIVE NUMBERS ASAP so we can plan congress and see if policy will fly. When registering, mark your best 4 VARSITY in IE and CONGRESS.  The remaining should be JV.  Varsity and JV may compete against each other.

The Cost: is $3.50 PER COMPETITOR. Make Checks payable to Howland Speech Team. As part of your registration fees, each school is to bring:
$15 WORTH OF UNWRAPPED UNISEX TOYS OR GAMES FOR TOYS FOR TOTS. Or $15.00 CASH IS EASIER… Also..5 boxes of cereal/oatmeal/etc  (lighter than cans…and more needed by our local pantry!)

Awards: Trophies will be awarded to the top six (or more) finishers in each event.  If we have policy debate, winners will receive certificates, with 1st place trophies.  A team sweepstakes trophy will be awarded.  There will be an outstanding speaker award for the top finisher to honor our tournament’s namesake.

Sweepstakes:  Your top ten finishers for the day
IE: 1=3    2=2   3=1
Congress: 6=3   5=2   4=3
Debate: 2.4 per win
Policy: Sorry, as no Ytown teams have policy, we will not be awarding policy points

Registration deadline for entries is  MONDAY,  December 16th at noon.
Judges should be registered by Friday night before the tournament.

Each school is to provide prepared judges according to the following ratios:
1 IE judge for every five entries or major fraction of five
1 PF or LD judge per two entries or major fraction of two
1 Congress judge if bringing entries…
If we have an overabundance of judges, we will let you know to bring less.

Registration the day of the tournament is as follows:
Individual Event and Debate registration is 8:00-8:30.
Individual Events are to register in room 121 (the big computer lab by the front entrance)
LD and PF Debaters and Judges should be dropped off at the middle school across the street and will register there. Check in at the cafeteria for additional information and instructions. Debaters will be shuttled back to high school after rounds.

Tentative Time Schedule:
8:00-8:30 Registration
8:30-9:00 Judge briefings in cafeterias at both buildings
Extemp draw in the media center at 8:45 PROMPT
All other IE competitors report to the gym for opening announcements.
We will be running short sections over 5 time slots.

Awards: 3:30 in the high school gymnasium if the speech gods smile on us!

Extemp, Debate, and Congress Concerns:
Extemp prep is in the media center on the second floor of the high school.  Students will draw round 1 and repeat the speech in round 2.  Students will draw for round 3 and repeat that speech for round 4. Coaches wishing do submit questions may do so by December 10th.

Debate will use the NFL topics for December.

Congress will use the OHSSL docket to that week…See OHSSL.org to print this out.  Out of district teams unfamiliar with congress tabulation in Ytown can ask for larification if you need it.  If we are going to have a super session, legislation will be pulled the morning of.

Students are expected to remain in the building for lunch.

The tabroom is by invitation.  If you are interested in working…please contact Jeremy Hamilton at Canfield.  We will be arranging tabroom assignments.

Directions to buildings…send me an email.

Hope everyone is well and the season is going great!  Look forward to seeing everyone.  I’ll send you updates as I get them.
