Hello Coaches! Crown Point Speech and Debate and Bishop Noll Speech and Debate are overjoyed to offer the second now-annual Speech Tournament Extravaganza. (Dramatic Pause.) Of Greatness.

First and Foremost, please, please, please understand the following guiding principles of this speech tournament:

GUIDING PRINCIPLE ONE: This is about celebrating doing speech together, as a community, here in Indiana. Fun, enjoyment, camaraderie, and a dash of whimsy is the whole point of this tournament. EVERYONE IS WELCOME no matter their experience level or their part of the state.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE TWO: This is a debate tournament that is letting us speech kids do some speech stuff. Debate tournament will always take priority. In all decisions. If that means, which has never happened, but for an example, we have to cancel the fourth round and send all of our judges to help debate, we do that.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE THREE: Related to two. We do not have a lot of space. And we do not want to impact the debate tournament in any way. No division other than "open." It's also why we have ...

GUIDING PRINCIPLE FOUR: Because of space, scheduling, and the one division, this will be a TRUE NO PREP tournament. Please make sure you understand what this means.

GUIDING PRINCIPLE FIVE: We are not going to take ourselves so seriously at this tournament.

WHAT IS A TRUE NO PREP TOURNAMENT?
There is literally no prep before the tournament (other than rules and how the event works). That means:
- Discussion gets artifacts that day. Either in the morning or in round.
- Broadcasting will be on the spot, cold reading, commercial (and maybe a new type of round.... or two....)
- Impromptu, Duo Impromptu, extemp prose will proceed as normal.
- THE EXTEMPS (IX / USX) WILL BE FLEX PREP of 10 minutes. Our extemp prep conflicted with World Schools prep last year, and because of space concerns, we just decided to go with a flex prep Extemp. Details on Speechwire by October 20.

WHAT IS UP WITH THESE NEW EVENTS?
Our tradition at this tournament is to offer some wildly different events. Extemp Prose was a HUGE hit last year, so we are bringing it back. Find the rules on Speechwire by October 20. We are ADDING "Art", "Chess", and "Shakespeare Monologue" this year. FULL DISCLOSURE: We are assuming there are no NSDA points for "Art" or "Chess", but they were Speechwire options! Check with your district chair. Find the rules for these new events on Speechwire by October 20. (You should have seen the events we were considering but ended up cutting! Next year...)

DETAILS I CARE ABOUT:
- Open to everyone. We especially hope some of the debate teams bring some speech kids with them.
- Entries, judges, DUE by Monday, November 6 at 5 pm CST. If events have to be combined because of interest, we will let you know as soon as we can.
- 1 Judge per 5 entries == NO VARSITY JUDGES. Judges must be legal according to the ISSDA rules for a varsity tournament.
- While we are going low-key, we do expect the guidelines and rules of the events and for conduct of participants and judges to be followed.
- Speakers may DOUBLE in all events except Discussion.
- Speakers may TRIPLE so long as they are not in Discussion. Speakers triple at their own risk - if tripled, judges will not wait for a speaker when a round ends. A tripler will not get a preferred speaking order over a doubler.
- Judges will receive the rules of new and changed events. Judges will be told to have their expectations to be no different if this was a typical, full, varsity speech tournament. One concession: Judges will be told to show a reasonable level of grace towards speakers who are obviously newbies and super nervous and / or terrified. "Reasonable grace" can include a supportive comment, a restart, a reminding of the event guidelines, etc.
- Registration for speech starts at 7 :15 am.
- Teams capped at 25 (space concerns)

Crown Point Speech and Debate and Bishop Noll Speech and Debate cannot wait to see you!
