The Lakeland High School Speech and Debate Team invites you to our 2012 Laker Invitational on January 28, 2012 in LaGrange, IN.

Register through www.speechwire.com by Monday, January 23 at 3:30 pm.
We will offer one division (Varsity) and the tournament will run four straight rounds.
Round 1 will begin at 8am EST and there will be a scheduled break for lunch at about noon.

Doubling Restrictions: Students may double at their own risk. No doubling in Discussion, Broadcasting, and Congress. Extemp can only double in OO and Impromptu. Both duo partners may double, even in another duo. We will request judges remain in the room for one hour after the round has started. If a doubled student does not arrive within the allotted time, they may receive a last-place ranking for that round.

Entry Limits: Limit of 5 entries per event, 35 total entries per team. IF we have enough space after everyone has registered we may be able to accommodate B teams which will not count toward sweepstakes. Contact us for details. Drop pick-up will be allowed, up to 5 per team.

Judges: You must provide judges for every 5 entries or fraction (6 entries=2 judges).

Awards: Ribbons for top 8 entries in each event and trophies for the top 4 teams.

Food: We will have food and concessions available for purchase. We will also provide Foltz Bakery items and lunch for the judges in the hospitality room.

Round 1-Bring an original 3-minute newscast no older than Thursday;
Round 2-Bring an original 1-minute commercial for a nationally-recognized cosmetic or personal hygiene product;
Round 3-Bring an original 2-minute editorial – author’s choice;
Round 4-On the Spot, 2-minute prep with 2-minute speaking time.

Extemp will draw for rounds 1 (also use for round 2) and 3 (also use for round 4).

Pre-Awards Entertainment: We will be holding a Lip Sync Contest prior to awards while we wait on results. Contestants should come prepared with a 2-5 minute song either a flash drive in mp3 format or on a CD. Students will be judged solely on non-verbal gestures and how well their mouths line up with the music. Students may enter as a "solo" or "duo." Limit of 2 entries per school and 8 entries total. To enter this contest, email us directly, or we may accept entries on the day of the tournament if room is still available.
