Dear Speech Coach,
On behalf of the Bloomington Speech Team and the Bloomington Friends of Forensics, I cordially invite you to the third annual Bloomington Speech Invitational on Saturday, February 18, 2012. We are excited to provide another high quality tournament for both Varsity and Novice speakers. In order to accommodate two divisions, competition will take place at Jefferson High School and Olson Middle School.
Our tournament will feature site scheduling, regular and honors finals in Varsity competition, and regular finals in Novice competition. Individual awards will be presented to all finalists and sweepstakes awards to the top three large team and top three small team entries.

PRE-TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
REGISTRATION DEADLINE
Monday February 13, 2012, 3:00 PM
ENTRIES
Currently, we have no limits on entries. Students may double enter, except in discussion. VARSITY means experienced competitors. NOVICE means first year competitors. Because we are in two locations, students can not double enter in one Varsity event and one Novice event. Triple entering is not allowed.
ENTRY FEES
The entry fee is $7 per entry. Make checks out to “Bloomington Speech.” Please have your school mail your check or bring it to registration.

ENTRY CHANGES
Any changes made to your team’s registration after Thursday, February 16, 2012 at 7:00 AM are non-refundable. After Thursday at 7:00 AM, please email changes to sdsieling@gmail.com.
JUDGES
You must provide one judge per six entries in the BUILDING your competitors are entered. For example, if you have 6 entries at Olson and 4 entries at Jefferson, you will need one judge dedicated to each building. WHEN REGISTERING, CAREFULLY REGISTER YOUR JUDGES FOR THE BUILDING'S ENTRIES. THE WEBSITE IS SET-UP TO FACILITATE THIS. IN ADVANCE OF THE TOURNAMENT, PLEASE BE SURE TO TELL YOUR JUDGES TO REPORT TO THE BUILDING YOU SELECTED ACCORDING TO YOUR ENTRY. We have a limited number of judges available for hire for a fee of $90.00. Please email ssieling@bloomington.k12.mn.us if you are in need of a hired judge, and we will try to able to accommodate your request.
CATEGORIES AND TIME LIMITS
We will honor both MSHSL and NFL rules. All thirteen MSHSL speech events will be offered. All non-draw events will be allowed a time limit of TEN MINUTES. For a copy of MSHSL rules, go to the MSHSL website at www.mshsl.org.
All NFL events will follow NFL rules. Please visit the NFL website at www.nflonline.org for rules.
DAY OF TOURNAMENT INFORMATION
DIRECTIONS
Jefferson High School is located at the intersection of France Ave. and 102nd Street. The address is 4001 W. 102nd St., Bloomington, MN 55437. Buses should drop students off at the main entrance. Buses remaining on site should park in the Jefferson lot or in the lot on Johnson Street, which is between the two schools.
REGISTRATION
Registration will occur at Jefferson High School from 7:00 to 8:00 AM on Saturday morning.
LOCATIONS
All events will be held at Jefferson High School.
TOURNAMENT FORMAT
There will be three preliminary rounds and a final round of approximately seven competitors. We will offer separate varsity and novice finals in all events.
AWARDS
Trophies and ribbons will be awarded to finalists in all events. Team sweepstakes will be based on combined final round rankings in novice and varsity divisions.
CONCESSIONS
Our concession stands will be available throughout the tournament at both tournament locations. Breakfast items, lunch and other snacks will be available.
DRAW EVENTS AND DISCUSSION
All draw events will have thirty-minute preparation times. Extemporaneous Reading and Storytelling contestants should be prepared for all stories/poems. Students in varsity and novice will draw for all three preliminary rounds and finals. The Discussion tasks will be taken from Section II of the MSHSL outline (Feeding the World--Security Issues). Tasks will not be posted in advance of the tournament. The discussion outline is available at www.mshsl.org.
