Thanks to the generosity of the family of the late Dolores Korfhage Hilke, a former South St. Paul speech great, South St. Paul is again extending this invitation to our tournament, which will be held March 10. You will note that the format of our tournament, site-scheduled, with three rounds and no finals, is especially congenial to small and mid-size teams, while still offering you and your students a rewarding, competitive experience.

REGISTRATION: For the first time we are using www.speechwire.com for registration and scheduling. Our school can accommodate approximately 600-650 competitors—so please register by Friday evening, March 2. After that date we will accommodate registrations only as space permits.

ENTRY LIMITS: Since our goal is to provide a rewarding tournament for small and mid-size teams, registration is limited to no more than 48 entries per team for the 13 MSHSL events. We will again offer students the opportunity to try a 14th category, IMPROMPTU. Impromptu will be the only category in which students may double enter! IMPROMPTU: All schools registering students for Impromptu are encouraged to check out the impromptu instructions and some sample topics from past years that I am posting on the Files for Download link under Tournament Information. The material is there specifically to provide students a chance to practice this new and fun event prior to competition.

FEE: $6.00 per student. Each duo event counts as one student for purposes of assessing fees and judging obligations. Your fees are based on your registration as of March 2. There will be no refunds for drops after that time.

JUDGES: Bring one judge for each six competitors or fraction thereof. Your judge obligation is based on your March 2 registration and will NOT be affected by later drops.

AWARDS: Trophies will be presented to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners in each event, with ribbons awarded through 8th place. Team trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th place schools. SCHEDULE: Our tournament is site-scheduled. Registration is from 7:30-8:30. It is essential that your team be present and registered by 8:30. Once we begin computer scheduling, no teams or students can be added. If you think you might arrive late, please call 651-900-3797 with your registration information so that we can include your students in the schedule. Please note that the staggered schedule, with Impromptu beginning 15 minutes after the other events, allows any competitor, regardless of event, to compete in Impromptu!
