Viking JV Joust
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information
Dear Speech Coach,
You are cordially invited to attend the William Fremd High School Viking JV Joust on Saturday, January 7, 2012. We are hosting this tournament in lieu of the JV Jam which was recently cancelled. The tournament will be a standard three round plus finals tournament. We do have a limited number of rooms, so registration will be closed once we reach the limit of students that we can comfortably accommodate. I will post a tentative schedule in the speechwire files.
The idea behind the final round is to give the JV competitors this experience. Therefore we are open to all novice, JV students or other students who have never had the opportunity to break into a final round.
ENTRY : You may enter up to three competitors in each event, but may also request extra entries. Requests for extra entries should be emailed to Katie Giegler (Dau) (kgiegler@211.org). Extra entries will be considered on a first-come, first-serve basis and preference is always extended to those who have allowed extras for our team. Extra entries will be admitted at additional fees, and teams permitted extra entries will be expected to provide additional judges. If you would like extra entries please request them ASAP.
JUDGES : Each team should provide one judge for every five entries in the competition. A full team is expected to have five judges, and teams with additional entries should bring an additional judge following the 1 judge per each 1 to 5 entries ratio. This is absolutely necessary for the success of the tournament.
FEES : Fees will be based on the number of entries as follows:
1-13 entries: $50
14-27 entries: $100
28-41 entries: $150
Over 42 entries: $250
Rules and Preparation
Radio : Prep will be at the tournament, in the Media Center. There will be two 45 minute preps for the preliminary rounds and one prep for finals. Students may choose either prelim prep for the third round.
Extemp : Prep will be at the tournament, in the Media Center. There will be two 45 minute preps for the preliminary rounds and one prep for finals. Students may choose either prelim prep for the third round. Please provide 10 topics by January 2, 2011.
Impromptu : We will be following the IHSA format. Please provide 10 topics by January 2, 2011
Time : There will be no official penalty for time (except in radio). Judges may consider it as part of the criteria for ranking.
Awards : All individuals in the final rounds will receive awards. Ties will not be broken. Top 3 team scores, based on prelims, will win team trophies.
Please RSVP no later than December 17, however remember that registration will close if we reach a maximum number of students so please RSVP ASAP. We look forward to seeing you and are planning an exciting day for both you and your competitors!
Sincerely,
Katie Giegler (Dau), Head Coach
