Dear Friends in Speech:  The Christmas wrapping has done its work and is moved to recycling and beneath the left-over ribbons there is a gleam of yellow. No, not the sun--this is northwest Ohio in winter--but the NDA Ducks on Ice Trophies--waiting in all their rubber feather glory to come home with your winning competitors!  This is your invitation to the Notre Dame Academy Ducks-on-Ice Speech Tournament to be held Saturday, January 21st, 2012.  Once again, instead of bringing home a trophy for this tournament—1-6th place will be given rubber duckies, suitable inscribed, of course!  We will also be offering our now traditional Random-Act-of Winning-Ducks in I.E. events. See the timetable for more info!
Let your students know that long after more traditional trophies will be gathering dust in the attic or garage, your NDA duck will live on. Imagine the joy years from now as you tell your small child that it is bath time.
“Gosh, mom/dad,” the little nipper will cry. “Can I play with the speech duck?”
What better way to impress the little tyke than with tales of your big wins back in the speech days.  Perhaps teaching him/her to read with the words –“First place in Domestic Extemp or Second place in Humorous Interp….Yes, with a rubber duckie trophy, you can be sure the speech legacy continues in your life for generations to come. We will also offer giant size duckie sweepstake prizes—all suitably inscribed of course!  Think how they will liven up your trophy case!  SEE THE TIME TABLE FOR EXCITING NEWS OF A NEW TROPHY OFFERED THIS YEAR!

Now the details of the day… Congress will use the OHSSL choices for this weekend. We will limit double entries to no more than two per team. These limits will also help the tournament run more smoothly.   I am pretty sure I  can guarantee you the first six entries in any category, and I will try after that.   Traditionally, we enter through the circle drive in front and exit at the back of the auditorium—in the back parking lot.
Judges:  Please bring one judge for every five students in the individual events or Congress.  Please bring one judge for every one-two L-D debaters, debate team.  For PF competitors, please bring one judge for every two teams.  If you have one controversy team bring one judge, two teams bring one judge, three teams bring two judges, four teams bring two judges, etc. We may have a very few judges for hire for $50.00

Registration fees:  $5.00 per contestant regardless of events.  Make checks payable to Notre Dame Academy.
Registration deadline:  Thursday, January 19th, 4:00 p.m.  Please register on Speechwire.  I will keep it open for changes until right after school on Friday the 21st
419 343-0007.  Any changes the day of-- e-mail- tsanders@nda.org  or call my cell phone—I am really bad at listening to messages on the school phone!

Foodstuffs:  Tasty breakfast and lunch along with snacks and homemade cookies will be available in our cafeteria at reasonable prices. Even as you read this team members are planning tasty baked goods!

Time Schedule
Times should be pretty accurate, but are subject to flaws in the space-time continuum that surrounds all speech tournaments. Congress and Debate will run on their own schedule with speech. We will have five rounds of debate unless there is a disturbance in the force.  There will be a Super Congress.

Extemp Draw- 8:45 a.m.
General meeting  & judges meeting-  8:45 a.m.
Debaters will have four to five rounds depending on the issues of the day!
First Round- 9:05 a.m.
Second Round- 10:30
Third Round-11:48
Lunch- 12:45
Final Round –2:00 –Speech events: Everyone will have a final round.  Remember –Nat Quals are coming up and your team needs those NFL points.  We will have one room that is the top six to seven in each event.  They will of course receive our traditional rubber duck trophies.  In every other final round, the top speaker in each room will get our special ROUND FOUR FAVORITE --RANDOM –ACTS-OF-WINNING-DUCK! for being top speaker in their section that round.  So get those NFL points and the chance of being a final round Winner!
Awards—4:00 p.m.
