DeKalb Baron Classic

     The Dekalb High School Speech Team cordially invites any school to attend our varsity speech invitational on Saturday, January 21st, 2012. All registrations must be submitted through SpeechWire.com by 4:00 on Tuesday, January 18th.

 

ENTRIES

Limit of 4 per event/36 per team.

Each school must provide one judge for every five entries or fraction thereof (6 entries=2 judges)

No PUDs on tournament day.

 

SCHEDULE

Round 1= 8:30  Round 2= 10:00  Round 3= 11:30  Finals= 1:00

First Extemp Draw at 8:15

Most doubling allowed except for the following:

  • No doubling in broadcasting, discussion, or congress.
  • Both duo partners may double; however any given student may not participate in two duos.
  • Students in extemp may only double in impromptu.  Students in impromptu may only double in extemp.  They are to speak in extemporaneous event first.

 

Extemp:

  • Rounds 1 & 2 draw at 8:15
  • Rounds 3 & 4 draw at 11:15
  • Topics from Newsweek, Time, Economist, & Christian Science Monitor (Sep. 1 to date)

Congress:  #7, 8, 13, 15

Discussion: The Economy (Sub topics A, B, C in pre-lims. General Question in final round.)

Broadcasting:

  • Round 1:  2 min prepared newscast
  • Round 2:  1 min commercial on movie (real or fictitious)
  • Round 3:  2 min editorial on use of technology in schools
  • Final Round:  On-the-spot (1 min prep, 2 min delivery)

 

AWARDS

Ribbons will be awarded to top eight entries in each event.  Trophies will be awarded to top 8 teams.
