NJFL Big Hollow Forensics Tournament
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a Middle School tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information Please join us at Big Hollow Middle School on December 9th, 2011. We are so excited to have you out for a fun filled evening of drama, laughter, finely crafted arguments and hopefully: new friendships! The Northern Illinois Middle School League started in 2010 with students from Deer Path and Big Hollow Middle Schools. Both schools attended the National Tournament in Texas and now we are hoping to find many new 5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students who will join in and create one of the most finest Speech, Debate, and Acting communities in the United States.
There are four tournaments scheduled this season and the Big Hollow team is hosting the first one --- we hope to see you at all four and even encourage you to join us at the National Tournament in Indiana in early June.
As to the details for December 9th, 2011:
Events: We will be offering competition in the following events:
Student Congress Debate (Bills available for download upon registration) Lincoln Douglas Debate (Resolved: Justice requires the recognition of animal rights) Duo Interpretation (10 min) Humorous Interpretation (10 min) Dramatic Interpretation (10 min) Prose Reading (7 min) Poetry Reading (7 min) Oratorical Declamation (10 min) Original Oratory (10 min) Extemporaneous Speaking (7 min. 30 minute prep) Storytelling (4-7 min)
Times: The General guidelines for time are NJFL recommended, but we recognize that not all students will be able to manage these times, especially the first few competition out. We suggest that all speeches and acting pieces should attempt to be at least 4 minutes long. Memorization is encouraged, but if it comes down to a student participating or not because they are not memorized, please have them participate with note cards or their script in hand. Part of the adventure is seeing how far one can come, we all start in different places~ what we do know is that participating will have one major component: It will be fun! The times for Student Congress are: Authorship Speech (3 minutes), followed by 2 minutes of questions from the chamber, First Opposing Speech (3 minutes), followed by 2 minutes of questions. Subsequent "pro/con sequences" have 3 minute speeches, followed by 1 minute of questions from the chamber. Lincoln-Douglass Debate Times/Sequences (each debater will have 4 minutes of prep time to use at their discretion throughout the debate):
Affirmative Constructive 6 minutes Judging: For Clubs or Teams: 1 qualified judge per 5 entries For Individual Entries: 1 qualified judge
There are a limited number of judges for hire at a fee of $20 for the day. Please contact Tracey Repa if you are interested. (Repa3@sbcglobal.net)
All judges are encouraged to remember this is a very new league and the goal is always to encourage and support.
Entry Limits: You may double enter competitors; however, the schedule will be tight and a round cannot be held up for a late student.
League Fees: NJFL League one time a year entry fee: $30 base fee per team or club $25 base fee per individual registration
