Northrop Speech Tournament

YoYou and your team are invited to participate in the Northrop Novice-Varsity Speech Tournament. The contest will be held on Saturday, December 3, 2011. Registration will be from 7:00-7:30 a.m. The first round of competition will begin at 8:30 a.m. Extemp draw will be at 8:00 a.m. with rounds starting 30 minutes after the draw. Novice is defined as 50 NFL points or first year of competition if points are not kept.
All registration will be on SpeechWire.com. No fax, e-mail, or paper entries will be accepted. Entries are due on Wednesday, November 25, 2011. Each event will have 3 preliminary rounds and a final. Discussion will use the Technology general topic for finals and sub topics for rounds 1-3. IHSFA rules will be enforced unless specified.
Each school will be permitted unlimited entries in each event, however only the top 4 from each event per team will count towards sweeps. Sweepstakes qualifying teams may not exceed 40 entries. All contestants may double except for those in discussion and congress; students in Extemp may double in only Impromptu or Original Oratory. Doubling is at the contestant’s own risk. Subjects for extemp will be taken from U.S. News and World Report, Time and Newsweek Magazines from September 1 to date. There will be thirty minutes of prep time for extempore speakers.
Sweepstakes will be given to the best 4 students from each school in each event up to 40 students. There will be no pick-up drops. Please notify me if there is a judging problem.
Radio speakers will write their own 2-minute newscast, 1-minute editorial and 1 minute commercial. All commercials will be on a nationally recognizable toy (Tickle Me Elmo, Transformers, etc.) The editorial is of the students own choice. On-the-spot will receive a 1 minute prep and speak for 2 minutes.
There will be special congress rules for this session which will be discussed at a congress meeting at 8:00 a.m. Congress bills are: 1, 4, 8 and 15.
