We are pleased to invite you to our 43rd annual Maine Invite, now in Festival format! We are looking forward to a great tournament for all involved.
DATE: Saturday, December 3, 2011
Schedule:
You know that’s coming later. Each student will speak 3 times (single-judged rounds only) and there will be finals. We’re shooting for awards at about 2 p.m.
FORMAT AND ENTRIES:
Teams are invited to enter 1 entry in each event, 2 in each, or 3 in each. Since this is a festival tournament, all students will compete as Varsity speakers, with a rating system in place: Superior, Excellent, Good, Fair, etc. This is of standards-based assessment at its best! Students can be single or double entered. Three rounds total.
AWARDS:
Individual awards will be given to the top point-earners in each event, but there will be ties allowed. Team awards will be based on total points for up to the top two entries in each event. The tab room will calculate team scores based on the top two competitors in each event, be they novice or varsity.
RULES:
Extemp will prep (see schedule). Radio speakers should come with a prepared script, including commercial, no more than 24 hours old. We will follow IHSA rules on all other events. There will be no penalties for time.
Entry fees and judges: Make checks payable to Maine East High School Speech Team
1 in each event (up to 14 slots) $75 Bring 3 judges
2 in each event (up to 28 slots) $125 Bring 4 judges
3 in each event (up to 42 slots) $175 Bring 5 judges
* If you cannot provide the required number of judges, $100 per judge will be added to your entry fee.
As there are very few tournaments of this kind and on this date, please register early to save your spot.
Please respond no later than Friday, November 4, 2011. If the tournament fills up prior to that date, we reserve the right to deny entry due to limitations in space and facilities.
