The Cannon Falls speech team will be hosting the CFHS “Last Chance” Invitational Speech Tournament on Saturday, March 24th, 2011. We would be pleased to have you join us for a day of challenging MSHSL speech competition.

Entry: We are using www.speechwire.com for running the tournament this year. The tournament is “Open.” As a result, any team can create an account and enter the tournament. Since the program is new to many of us, feel free to email Cal and double check that everything is working fine. Also, feel free to pass the invitation on to interested schools.

Entry Deadline: Tueday, March 2othby 3 pm. Fees will be set at this time. We have room for about 450 entries; if we exceed capacity, the entry system will close early. Early entry is appreciated for planning purposes.

Update entries: Please update your entry with any changes through getting on the bus on Saturday morning.  We would appreciate that your entry matches who is on your bus when you leave school.  If unable to get to a computer the day of the tournament, please call en route to the tournament with drops/adds to Cal at 651-769-5194. The phone will be answered starting at 7:00 am on tournament day.

Facilities: We are using both high school and elementary buildings to maximize the size of the tournament. Unfortunately, to use our space well, the judges room is on the far west end of the high school and the elementary building is several hundred yards east of the high school. Please inform judges of the possibility of a long walk to any round in the elementary building. Students competing at the elementary building will be there for all prelim rounds. All finals will be in the high school. Also, please prepare everyone for the weather conditions.

Fees: Registration fee will be $6 per entry (Duo entries count as two). Make checks payable to Cannon Falls High School. If sending the check, please send c/o Cal Vande Hoef, Speech Team.

Format : There will be three rounds and finals in each of the 13 MSHSL categories. No double entries please. Students will draw for all rounds and finals. There will be finals for the top six competitors.

Judges: Each school will be required to provide one judge for every six entries. If you need to hire a judge, please contact Cal directly to see if we have extra available.

Food: Our speech parents will be selling food the day of the tournament. Details will be posted on the tournament site. Questions: Contact Cal Vande Hoef at vandehoef.cal@cannonfallsschools.com.  Because we are unable to serve homemade food to judges per school rules, we cannot afford to feed coaches and judges a full lunch. We will try to have food to snack on and drinks, but coaches and judges should plan to by food through the lunchroom.
