Dear I.E. Speech Team Head Coach:
The Willowbrook High School Individual Events Speech Team cordially invites you to participate in our eighth Willowbrook Invitational on Saturday, January 21, 2012. As a coaching staff and team, we are extremely pleased to offer another tournament. Construction is completely and FINALLY finished, so you will see afully remodeled building with no drafts, noises, etc. So, the theme will be “Complete”, for Willowbrook is no longer under construction. Once again, this will be a warm, inviting tournament for all participants.
Entries, Fees and Judges: Teams may enter 1, 2, or 3 speakers per event. Remember, at this point in the season, all speakers will be competing at the same level; in other words, we will not delineate between Novice and Varsity speakers. The entry fee is $150.00. Please make checks payable to Willowbrook High School, c/o Brett Blair, IE Speech Team. Once checks are received, refunds will not be made. We will need 1 judge per 5 entries. Therefore, if you have a full team (32 entries), then we will need a maximum of 6 judges. If you have more than 32 entries, then please have the check made for $200.00. Receipt of your information will be confirmed via e-mail/SpeechWire, so please make sure you place your preferred e-mail address on the form.
Schedule: 7:00-7:45 Registration 7:45 Extemp/Radio prep in Library 8:00 Round I all events except EXT & RS 8:30 Round I EXT & RS 9:30 Round II except for EXT & RS 9:45 EXT & RS prep Round II 10:30 Round II EXT & RS 11:30 Round III: All events (RS & EXT choose RI or RII speech) 1:00 EXT & RS prep for finals 1:30 Finals (all events except for IDA, OPP, RS & EXT) 1:45 EXT & RS finals 3:45 Awards in the Auditorium
Rules: Extemp & Radio will prep Rounds I & II. Extemp and Radio speakers may choose either Round I or II speeches to present in Round III. We will follow IHSA rules on all other events.
Also, we will have Impromptu Duet Acting and Original Poetry or Prose. You will be able to have your speakers triple enter only for Impromptu Duet Acting or OPP. No speaker can triple enter in the IHSA events only, and no speaker can be in four events!!! We will disqualify ALL scores for that speaker, if we recognize a speaker in more than 3 events or if s/he is in 3 regular IHSA events. More details will be provided regarding the additional events. Improvisational Duet Acting may use two chairs as props. Also, the speakers will pick ONE topic. (We will not break ties for those who place 1st through 6th in IDA or OPP.)
Awards: Medals will be given to 1st through 6th place speakers and ribbons to finalists. Team awards will be based on preliminary rounds from first to sixth place. The team awards will be based on the top two competitors in each event from each team in preliminary rounds.
Lunch: Lunch will be provided (pizza); however, there are several fast food restaurants on Roosevelt Road between Summit and Westmore-Myers. Please let us know if you plan to stay for lunch or go off campus.
Due Dates: Please fill out entry information on SpeechWire by January 13th. Please forward your responses via e-mail (bblair@dupage88.net) or SpeechWire. (We would prefer SpeechWire/e-mail responses.) We are looking forward to seeing you on January 21, 2012.
