Lena-Winslow Novice/Varsity Invitational
General information This information is from a tournament in a past season! This is a High School tournament in Illinois. View manager contact information You are invited to the 5th Annual Lena-Winslow Novice/Varsity Speech Tournament. We have always been a relatively small tournament, and I'm anticipating the same for this year. It's a good tournament for younger kids (AKA novices), so if you were planning on sending your "A" team into the suburbs that day, send your other kids to us. It may be one of the final times this season they hear their names called out on stage. Our schedule should be on SpeechWire somewhere, so I won't repeat it here. Because we're out in the country, though, and our Tournament is in January, it wouldn't be a bad idea if you planned on getting here around 7:15. If we get hit with snow, it may take you longer than planned to get here. For those who have not been here before, the event is in the Le-Win Junior High/Elementary building, NOT the high school. Your buses will park in the large lot on the right after you turn onto Fremont Street, and you will enter the first set of double doors facing the street. Here are the basics: FEE- $90. Send it now or bring it with you. JUDGES- One per every five entires ENTRIES- Kids may be double entered. I don't have a firm limit on the number of entries per category, and I won't increase the fee based upon quantity, but I will ask you to be reasonable. If you plan on bringing more than 4 per any one category, send me a note first, and we'll talk about it. If anything, I'll ask for more judges. STRUCTURE- Two preliminary rounds and one final. The first round will be double judged and the second one single judged. Novice finals will single judged, and if the people are available, varsity finals will be triple judged. If not, they'll be double judged. I'm not concerned about ties as a result. That will be one "informality" of this tournament that I'll stick with. If more kids hear their names called out to receive an award, then great. RADIO & EXTEMP- One prep (7:45 AM) for prelims and one for finals. Please send 10 topics for these categories if you plan on entering them. AWARDS- Medals for varsity finalists, ribbons for novice, and trophies for the top three teams. FOOD- Good and relatively inexpensive THINGS I FORGOT, COMMENTS, QUESTIONS- Call me at 815/616-0926 (cell), 815/369-3134 (office), 815/233-0383 (home) Hope to see you next January in Leapin' Lena.
