South Florida NSDA Thursday Night Lights Debate

Tournament Dear Coaches: We would like to extend an invitation to you and your team to participate in the 2nd Miami-Dade After School Debate Tournament to be held on Tuesday, October 22nd, 2019 at North Miami Senior High School. These tournaments are great opportunities for students who are new to forensics to participate in a “mini-tournament”.

This Tournament Will Be Charging an Entry Fee of $7.00 per student

Date: Tuesday, November 19th, 2019

Time: Registration – 3:30 – 4:00 PM 

Tournament Begins – 4:30 PM

SPEECH EVENTS - We Will Have The Following IE Events: DEC, DP, DUO, MX, POI/OI, OO, and INFO

Debate Topics 

BIG QUESTIONS Resolved: Objective morality exists.

LD - BOTH NOVICES AND VARSITY will use the November / December topic Resolved: Resolved: The United States ought to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels.

PFD - will use the November/December topic Resolved: Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms.

POLICY – will use the 2019 – 2020 Topic Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States

WORLDS -To save time and have two full rounds, teams will debate both sides of the prepared motion: This House believes that more economically developed countries (MEDCs) should provide climate change reparations to less economically developed countries (LEDCs).

Number Of Rounds: 2 in each event

The Tournament Will Provide Legislation For Student Congress

TEAMS MUST BRING JUDGES – WE CANNOT HOLD A COMPETITION WITHOUT JUDGES – THERE ARE A VERY LIMITED NUMBER OF JUDGES AVAILABLE FOR HIRE!

Varsity Team Members Can Judge At All ASTs Unless Otherwise Noted

Dinner - Students will be provided w/ 2 slices of pizza and a bottle of water.
