Welcome to the inaugural Douglas County Groundhog Games Tournament on February 2nd, 2019.  The tournament will be held at Chaparral High School, 15655 Brookstone Dr, Parker, CO 80134.  
 
Events:  We will host three preliminary rounds of varsity competition in Drama, Humor, Poetry, Program Oral Interpretation, Original Oratory, Informative Speaking, National Extemporaneous Speaking, International Extemporaneous Speaking, Duo Interp, Cross-Examination Debate, Lincoln Douglas Debate, and Public Forum Debate, along with Finals in each.  We will also host Congressional Debate. Double entering will be allowed in Individual Events.
 
Debate Resolutions:  We will use the 2018-19 NSDA CX topic (Immigration), the January-February NSDA LD topic (military aid to authoritarian regimes), and the February NSDA PF topic (arms sales to Saudi Arabia).  
 
Congressional Debate: Please submit bills and resolutions in proper format by January 25 by email to jgardner@dcsdk12.org.  
 
Entries:  Each school may enter a maximum of 5 entries in each event and 10 entries in Congress.   Entries will be handled on a first-come, first served basis. Registration will occur online at www.speechwire.com. Registration will close on January 25th, but may close sooner based on entries received. 
 
Judges: Judges will be paid $10 per round. Each school is expected to provide 1 judge for every 6 entries. Each uncovered judge will result in a $10 fee - we need judges!
 
Entry Fees:  Fees are $12.00 per student for Debate and Events and $9.00 per Congress student, based on pre-registration numbers as of Friday, January 25th.  Please make checks payable to Chaparral High School Speech & Debate. Registration and Schedule: Registration will be held from 7:00-7:30am. Rounds will begin at 8:00am. Awards are scheduled for 7:00pm.
 
Rules:  
Competition is open to 9-12 grade students representing the school in which they are officially enrolled and doing so with the permission of their school administration and/or coaches. 
 
Awards:  We will give out numerous trophies and awards.  Awards are scheduled for 7:00pm.
 
Concessions:  A concessions stand will be available for students.  Lunch will be furnished for coaches and judges.  
 
Miscellany:  A responsible coach must be present on site at all times. Please remind students that mistreatment of facilities may result in the cancellation of future tournaments.
