Welcome to the 2018-19 Debate Broward Season!

It's time for our very first Elementary After School Tournament (EAST) of the year, Wednesday, October 3rd, 2018 at Everglades High School (thanks Katie Benitez, David Fleischer and the Everglades Students/Parents)!

Registration will close on Monday, October 1st at 5pm. Changes (drops or name changes) can be made until 12pm on Wednesday (the day of the touranment). Any hidden drops will result in your school being fined $25 per drop. You will be able to make your own changes until 12pm on that Wednesday. Any changes after that, please text Megan West: 940.206.3806 or Justin Weaver: 954.790.8160 the school name, student who is dropping, and her/his event.

You need to provide 1 judge for every 5 students for this event. Parents of the students, administrators, and teachers are a great place to start asking for judges! Also reach out to your feeder high schools to see if they can send veteran debaters to judge for you! Your mentor can help you get in touch with your feeder coaches.

In order to maintain the safety and integrity of the tournament, we are requiring that the only parents in attendance at the tournament are official judges or chaperones. Chaperones who are not judges will not be permitted in competition rooms. They also need to be cleared through the district's star system. Parents that are not judges/chaperones, that would like to attend the award ceremony, should plan to arrive at 5:30pm and report to the auditorium. We appreciate your cooperation with this!

Buses will pick-up students at their home schools between 12:30pm and 1:30pm and take them to Everglades High School. All attendees will report directly to the Auditorium upon arrival.  Coaches will need to check-in at the "registration desk" in front of the auditorium, and then monitor their students. After the Everglades bell rings (2:40pm), students will be released to report to their rounds. Round 1 is scheduled for 3:15 and Round 2 is scheduled for 4:30. Congress will have ONE SESSION from 3:15-5:15. Awards will be in the Auditorium around 5:45pm. Snacks and pizza will be available for purchase in the cafeteria (students will have to eat in the cafeteria). Buses will pick up at Everglades High School at 6:00pm.

Congress legislation for October was emailed directly to all coaches. It can also be found on this website under "Files for Download", and on the BCPS Elementary Debate Canvas Course. Please let Justin Weaver know ASAP if you need the legislation re-sent to you.

More information may be sent out as the tournament approaches. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. We know this is the first tournament for many of you!
