Unlike Julius Caesar, our local soothsayer foretells of good fortune for those who come to The Ides of March Junior High Speech Tournament hosted by Westonka on March 14, 2019. We will use Speechwire and will accept all MSHSL speech categories. We will have three preliminary rounds only (no final round). Concessions will be provided to students, and our booster parents will be providing food and beverages for judges, coaches.

Registration and Fees

• The cost is $3 per entry; $6 per duo.
• Registration Deadline:
  • Tuesday, March 12, 2019 – all drops after this point will not result in a change of statement
• Entry changes (drops or adds) can be made on the speechwire.com tournament site up until the end of registration. We will be site scheduling all rounds of competition in order to make sure rounds are equal and fair. For this reason, registration must be completed promptly by 3:30PM or a phone call to 612-308-3038 must be made to report your team drops.
• Please make checks payable to Westonka Speech Team and either hand them in at the registration desk, or mail to:

Schedule

Judges

• Each team is required to bring 1 judge for each 6 entries (including double entries). 
• For each uncovered entry, the team will be assessed a $100 fee.
• Experienced Senior High/Varsity students may judge, provided they are comfortable judging all categories.

Double Entering

• Double entering is permissible, but no triple entering.

Minnesota State High School League Event Info:

• We will not have draws or prep periods.
• Students in Storytelling are allowed to perform their favorite 3 stories.
• Cuttings for Extemp Reading will be distributed the week of the tournament. Students should select their favorite 3 cuttings from that list.
• Extemp Speaking topics will be distributed the week of the tournament. Students should select their favorite 3 topics from that list.
• Discussion tasks will be distributed the week of the tournament.
