Fellow Ragers,

We are so excited to invite you to our FIRST annual Rage on the Bayou on October 27 & 28 in Lafayette, Louisiana! We will be swinging with Wiley College here on the campus of University of Louisiana at Lafayette. We have an alligator habitat in the middle of campus and tons of great music, amazing food, and good times around town. So, obviously, you should probably come on down. Further, we will be inviting students and coaches from our vibrant local high school circuit to visit on Sunday to take in a little collegiate competition, and we encourage you to share information about your experiences and schools during the lunch break.

Both tournaments will offer all 11 Individual Events in accordance with AFA-NIET rules and descriptions. Awards will be given to the top 6 competitors and the top novice in each event, the top 3 quadrathon phenoms, and the top 3 schools for each tournament. Additionally, we are hoping to  test out Speechwire’s online ballot option, so bring your laptops and smart pads if this intrigues you. If not, bring a pen and we’ll hand you them there paper ballots.

Please register for both halves at speechwire.com by 5:00 PM CST on Tuesday, October 23, 2018. Early check-in for the tournament will be held the lobby of Burke-Hawthorne Hall from 6-8 PM on Friday, and we’ll update the location for Saturday and Sunday check-in on the schedule and via Speechwire the week of the tournament. We are full of a joyful rage and can’t wait to see you all on the bayou! If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email Chas, womelsdorf@louisiana.edu.

Peace,

The Wiley College Wildcats and the UL Ragin’ Cajuns

Quadrathon: Students must be entered in at least 4 events. Any combination of 4 or more.

Team Sweepstakes & Tie Breaking: AFA-NIET guidelines, except all competitors in each event from a team will count towards sweeps in prelims, not just the top 3.

Fees: Each judge covers 6 entries, $10 per Covered Entry and $20 per Uncovered Entry. There will be a $15 per drop after Wednesday noon.

Entry Limits

We encourage teams to limit students to 3 events per flight, but it’s your call. Rounds are an hour and fifteen minutes without exception, so it’s up to the students to get to their rounds on time. To keep the tournament on schedule, we will tell judges to return their ballots if there are only ten minutes or less remaining and a student or students have yet to arrive. If the tournament requires any semifinal rounds, these will occur during the Flight A Finals. Please consider all of these factors when making your decisions.

Parking

Parking shouldn’t be an issue; just pay attention to signs and fire hydrants. We will try to keep the tournament centralized around our quad area and near the aforementioned alligator habitat, so parking along Hebrard Street is prime real estate.

Food

People, this is why you come to South Louisiana in general. Do your research, but please feel free to ask Chas for input. While folks might be interested in “authentic” Louisiana cuisine, Lafayette actually boasts a great deal of diversity when it comes to filling your bellies. This is a very “churched” area, so do verify that any restaurants that speak to you are open on Sunday.

Lodging

The hotels on Pinhook are in busier areas than the ones on Kalliste Saloom. Honestly, we look forward to your input after our first rodeo!
