2018 Eagle Classic
April 7, 2018
Hosted by Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS

Greetings,
This is the formal invitation to the 2018 Eagle Classic hosted by Marjory Stoneman Douglas HS. The past few weeks have been very difficult time for this community. The tragic events that have transpired have shaken this community to its core and will continue to test us for years to come. The most difficult struggle has been a sense of urgency for normalcy that competes with our sense of honoring those we have lost. I would like to thank every member of the speech and debate community that has offered us love and support during this tough time. MSD is a strong and supportive community and we take our commitments seriously. As such, we understand the value of a fourth quarter invitational and would like to continue our leadership in the debate community. As such, the Marjory Stoneman Douglas Speech and Debate team would like to invite you to the return of the Eagle Classic!
Divisions/Events
We will offer MS/Novice and Varsity divisions in the following events: Lincoln Douglas Debate, Public Forum Debate, Congress, Original Oratory, Extemporaneous Speaking, Dramatic Interpretation, Humorous Interpretation, Duo Interpretation, Oral Interpretation, and Informative Speaking.
We reserve the right to collapse any and all events into one division should entries exceed our room constraints.
Congress
All Congress Legislation should be emailed to jesus-michael.caro@browardschools.com Monday March 12, 2018 at 6:00pm. I expect to release legislation for the tournament on March 18, 2018 at 1:00pm.
Rounds
There will be 5 rounds of competition across Speech and Debate. Congress will have 2 preliminary sessions and one breakout session.
Judges
We will try to have additional community judges but ask that you provide 1 judge for every 5 speech entries and 1 judge for every 2 debate entries.
Entry fee
Entry fees will be $25.00 per competitor (so $50.00 per entry in PF and Duo). This will include all student and judge meals. Your speech competitors can double enter for no additional charge!

All meal prices for competitors and judges are included in the entry fee. Please use the Speechwire system to indicate your meal preferences once they become available.
