View manager contact information Eastern Ohio NSDA Big Questions Debates at GlenOak High School Saturday, October 07, 2017 Friends, Apologies for my tardiness . . . blame the WINdians . . . you should have had this 3 weeks ago . . . YIKES! You and your speech & debate competitors are invited to participate at the first Eastern Ohio NSDA Big Questions Debates event at GlenOak HS on Saturday, October 07, 2017. Goals of this BQD event: First, to raise $$$ for Eastern Ohio NSDA! Second, to provide a non-stressful environment for NEW competitors to learn HOW a tournament works, and to provide a productive learning experience. Third, to provide some type of competition for veteran competitors who want more NSDA credit points . . . and a possible “leg up” for NSDA National Tournament consideration. Details: TIMES: Registration will begin at 8:00 am at GlenOak HS. Round I will begin at 9:00 am. Our goal is to have 3 rounds of non-stressful competition and bid you “Goodbye” around 1:00 – 1:30 pm-ish. FEES: There are NO fees! Yep, this is a FREE event! Bring as many kids as you want! GOHS is a big school. REGISTRATION: Use SpeechWire! There will be 2 divisions, JV & Varsity. Please enter NEW kids in the JV division . . . unless you believe they are speech & debate studs! JV Division can be a 2-person team event! We prefer that veterans should debate in the Varsity Division as singletons, but . . . flexibility is our motto! You know us, we will keep registration OPEN until Saturday, 10/07 morning, but we would like some numbers as soon as you can for the “Food Mom & Dad!” DRESS: This is gonna be a VERY relaxed event! Attire is school-appropriate casual. If your team rules demand “tournament attire,” that’s fine also! JUDGES: For the varsity division, we prefer Adult (high school graduate) judges. For the JV division, Adults OR student judges with 150 NSDA credit points may judge. Contact Nick or Tom if you have any questions. HOSPITALITY: We will have pizza, chips, and beverages, probably some morning items as well, for sale to competitors and student judges. Coaches and ADULT judges, bus drivers will be on Eastern Ohio NSDA’s tab. PARKING: As for all GlenOak tournaments, all competitors and judges must enter through Door #17 – Main Commons entrance. Park in lots 3, 4 & 5 adjacent to Door 17. See “Files for Download on SpeechWire for complete directions and parking instructions! COMPETITION: Under “Files for Download,” we have uploaded ALL NSDA resources for Big Questions Debates. This event is NOT competition intense! Competitors can READ all material during the rounds. We believe this will be a good introduction to a tournament experience. The emphasis is not on winning, but on DOING! Again, I apologize to Eastern Ohio for my tardiness.
