Greetings!

You are invited to Chesterton’s Skeffington Memorial Tournament on Saturday, February 4, 2017.  Registration will be on SpeechWire (www.speechwire.com).  We will offer all 14 IHSFA events.  You may enter up to 60 entries, but no more than 7 per event.  Students in all events except discussion may double at their own risk.  You may also triple enter up to four students.

We will have three rounds and a final in all events.  Once again, everyone should sign up to judge a final round (some judges will be preassigned based on areas of expertise) regardless of having students involved in the event.  From that pool, the office will select panels for final rounds.  At this point we need input from everyone.  We could have up to five judges in a final round.  Check postings so you know how many will be assigned.  Your student may be performing for you.  It is often frightening for students to perform in front of their coaches, but if they can handle your presence, they will be able to handle almost anything.  To avoid confusion, please warn your students of this policy.

We hope to hold awards by 4:00 p.m., provided the tournament runs smoothly.

Please bring one judge for every five entries (6 entries = 2 judges).  Judges will be asked to write clear, logical critiques for the students.  Students need to understand the reason for their rank.  We will not have timekeepers; judges should use stopwatches to time students.  If the judge does not have a stopwatch he/she should announce to all students that time will not be kept.  Please inform your judges of recent changes in IHSFA rules and newly added events.

Discussion: Artifacts are now posted under downloads.

Duo: Current IHSFA Rules will apply.

Extemp: Questions will come from current events that occurred or were discussed in the media from September 1, 2016 through the present.

Broadcasting: Current IHSFA rules will apply.

First round:  News program (5 min)
Second Round: Editorial (2 min)
Third Round: On the Spot (2 min)
Fourth Round: News Program (5 min)

Material for the news program and editorial are now posted.  Find Weather and/or sports news on your own if desired.

Music Intro and Outro is on the Radio Copy download.

Registration (Remember we are on Chicago Time):  Registration is on SpeechWire, and entries are due by Monday, January 30, 2017 at 5:00 CST.  We will leave SpeechWire open for drops, name changes, and judges names (only) until Thursday, February 2nd.   Drops, however, will not change your judging obligation based on your original entry.  Final registration will be from 7:00-7:45 a.m. on the 4th.

Extemp draw and radio prep as well as all other rounds will begin at 8:00.  Round 1 of extemp and round 1 of broadcasting will begin at 8:30.

We will have food service in the cafeteria.  Please remain in the building.  If you have any questions contact me at becky.uehling@duneland.k12.in.us.

Important:  Please call or text any drops you have by 7:30 (CST) Saturday morning at 219-241-8707.  If you know of drops or name changes prior to Saturday morning email me.  There will not be any drops to pick up on the day of the tournament.

Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at CHS!
