Dear Forensics Coach:

We are pleased to invite you and your team to the 2017 Durand High School Forensic Invitational, held on Saturday, February 18, 2017.  After a one year hiatus, we are glad to host once again and look forward to a terrific day of high-quality competition!

REGISTRATION:
Schools may register at http://www.speechwire.com

REGISTRATION DEADLINE:
Registration will close at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, February 10.  You may add and drop entries until midnight on Thursday, February 16. We must limit entries due to space.  We will accommodate about 300 entries on a first come, first served basis.

DAY of TOURNAMENT DROPS and CHECK-IN:
All schools are required to text their drops or confirm their attendance by 7:30 am on Saturday morning. Please text even if your team doesn’t have any drops to report, as it will serve as confirmation.

Text Geoffrey Baumann at (715) 279-6586

Check in will start at 7:45 AM just inside the main entrance (under the panther).  All participating schools are expected to be checked-in no later than 8:15 AM.

RULES:
We will offer the following WFCA events: Demonstration Speaking, Duo Interpretation, Extemporaneous Speaking, Farrago, Group Interpretation, Informative Speaking, Moments in History, Oral Interpretation of Literature, Oratory, Play Acting, Poetry, Prose, Radio Announcing, Solo Acting (Humorous and Serious combined), Special Occasion Speaking, and Storytelling.  We will also operate under the following modifications for a more WHSFA-friendly tournament.
1. Two speakers will be allowed in Demonstration Speaking.
2. Four-minute speakers can be entered into WFCA’s new Informative Speaking category, which carries a six minute time limit.  Four-minute speakers will not be penalized unless they are far under four minutes and the judge deems their piece to be lacking substance.
3. One 4x6 note card can be used in Oratory.  Other categories that allow notes do not specify what can and cannot be used.
4. Public address students will not have their own category, but can enter into Oratory.  Judges will be alerted to this.
5. Chairs may be used in Solo or Group Interp.  Optional reader’s stands can be used in any category involving a script or notes.
6. Solo Serious and Solo Humorous will be combined into Solo Acting and judged together.
7. In Storytelling, the order in which stories are told will be set by random draw at the opening meeting.
