Fees:   For both tournaments, the fees are $8.00 per slot.  One judge is required for each 6 slots.  Judges may be hired for $10.00 per uncovered slot.  Please make every effort to cover your entry.  Due to the nature of the Swing Tournament, drop fees will be at a minimum in order to assure proper entries at the second half of the swing/District Qualifying Tournament.  There is a $50.00 District Dues fee for those schools that have yet to register with the district and wish to join AFA.  Schools competing in the District Tournament must pay the AFA District Dues fee regardless of their intent to compete at the AFA-NIET.  All schools planning on attending the AFA-NIET must have an AFA Membership affiliated with the school/team – this can be an organizational membership, a coach’s membership, or a student membership.  This is separate and distinct from the AFA District membership.

Entry Stipulations for the District Qualifying Tournament Only:

1.              Each participating school may enter a maximum of 5 competitors per event.

2.              No student may enter any event in which she/he has qualified at large to compete in the AFA-NIET.  Entries should be double-checked before submission to ensure that they do not violate this rule (plus it will be time to submit those at-large qualifications to the chair anyway).

3.              Each student may enter a maximum of 6 events with no more than 2 in each pattern (see groups listed above).  No exceptions can be made, and 2 duos count as 2 events for this ruling.

4.              All qualifying contestants must be in a position at the District VII Tournament to indicate whether or not they will be attending the AFA-NIET in Bradley, IL this April 1st -3rd, 2017.  District qualifications are awarded to the top 3 finishers in events with a total participation of 1 - 30 students, the top 4 with 31 - 40, the top 5 with 41 - 50, and the top 6 with 51 - 60.  Events with 51 or more contestants will break to a semi-final round before going to finals.

5.              All schools must provide a Student Verification Form (available on the AFA-NIET website), as well as an At-Large Qualification Reporting Form (also available on the AFA-NIET website) for each student who plans on attending the AFA-NIET in Peoria, IL – both of these forms must be in the hands of the District Chair no later than registration on March 3, 2017.

Awards for the District Qualifying Tournament:  Each event will have a minimum of 6 finalists.  Awards will be presented to all finalists in every event.  In addition, awards will be awarded for the top 5 team sweepstakes scores.  Team sweepstakes will be based on final rounds only with 6 points awarded for each 1st, 5 for each 2nd, etc.

The Cornell half of the swing will use the same procedures and point system for awards, but will not limit entry to five competitors per event. However, students may only enter three events per pattern. In addition to recognizing all finalists and the top five teams in sweepstakes, the Cornell tournament will recognize the top three speakers at the tournament.

As always, we are looking forward to a great turnout at this year's Districts!  Please let other schools in our district know about the tournament – joining the district at registration is acceptable.  Schools that are normally NFA-only are also encouraged to attend; it's a qualifier under NFA guidelines as well.  See you in March.
