Judges: Judges need to be familiar and willing to accept the DSDL community norms. Guidelines can be found on the DSDL website.

Prose and Poetry Interpretation: For this tournament Oral Interpretation of Literature (OI) will be divided into Prose and Poetry Interpretation. Both events will still follow the NCFL guidelines for OI, rather than the NSDA's guidelines for prose and poetry.

 

Extemp Topics: All rounds of extemporaneous speaking will feature cross-examination in accordance with NSDA rules.

Student Congress:

  • A school that enters competitors in the Congressional Debate division is required to submit at least one piece appropriately formatted legislation.
    • Legislation is tied to the student and not the school. Thus, each competitor may submit one piece of legislation. No competitor may serve as the author of more than one piece of legislation. 
    • Legislation must be submitted to dogwoodlegislation@gmail.com no later than noon Wednesday, February 1, 2017 
    • Legislation will be posted no later than the Monday, February 6, 2017.
    • In order to expedite the release of the legislation packet, the League has adopted templates. They can be found on the website, but for ease they also have been posted to Speechwire.

 

Lincoln Douglas Topic:

  • Resolved: Public colleges and universities in the United States ought not restrict any constitutionally protected speech.

 

Public Forum Debate: Rounds will be side-locked. Thus, there will be no coin toss.

  • Resolved: The United States should lift its embargo against Cuba.
