Hello Friends,

It's time for another MAFL weekend! Both MAFL #3 and MAFL #4 will be hosted on the University of Wisconsin Whitewater campus on Saturday, October 22, and Sunday, October 23, 2016. Many thanks in advance to Jim Disrude for his hospitality.

Reminders for MAFL #3:

  • MAFL #3 is a Novice Recognition tournament. When you register students for each event, please specify whether they are in the Novice or Open division. A Novice is a student in their first year of collegiate forensics competition.

  • MAFL #3 is a Charity Tournament. In lieu of medals and plaques, all finalists and sweepstakes winners will receive certificates. MAFL will donate 50 cents per team sweepstakes point earned to a local charity of the host school's choosing.

  • Applications for the Spring 2017 MAFL Intern Program are due digitally to Karen Morris (morriskr@uwec.edu) by 5:00 pm CST on Tuesday, October 18. A description of the position and instructions for applying can be found by clicking the "Files for Download" button on this site.

Entries: Each school may enter 6 students per event. Each student may enter up to 4 events. Because of the 1 hour and 15 minute time limit for each round, it is strongly recommended that students are only double-entered and not triple-entered in a pattern. It is the responsibility of the student to make it to their rounds on time. Judges cannot wait past the time allotted for the round. Students may not enter all 4 events in one pattern.

*Entries are due Tuesday, October 18 by 5:00 pm CDT. At that point, you will no longer be able to make changes to your entry online. After this point, no new entries will be accepted, however, changes and drops may be made on the Speechwire website until Wednesday, October 19 at 12:00 pm.*

Fees: Please remember that at the first MAFL you attend, you will be required to submit your yearly membership dues of $300.00. This payment entitles your school to attend all of the remaining 2014-15 MAFLs. A non-member school may attend 1 MAFL per season without paying membership dues, but instead pay $8 per entered slot and uncovered judge fees.

Beyond your one-time membership dues, the only fees you will pay at each tournament are for uncovered or dropped slots. Each full-time judge covers 6 slots, and uncovered slots are $10 each. If you bring more than 20 uncovered slots, the fee will be increased to $20 for each slot beyond 20.

*All fees will be assessed on Wednesday, October 19 at 12:00 pm. After this point there will be a $10 charge for each dropped slot.*

Please do not hesitate to contact me (rbuel@monmouthcollege.edu, 805-404-1649) if you have any questions about MAFL tournaments or using Speechwire. Hoping to see many of you in Wisconsin!

Cheers,

Rebecca Buel

PARKING/DIRECTIONS

GPS-able Address809 W. Starin Rd., Whitewater, WI

Parking Advice: Teams can park with no penalty both days at non-metered spots in Lot 7, behind the Visitor's Center (small building with a blue slanted roof), directly across the street from the main entrance of Hyland Hall. There is no weekend parking enforcement on campus.

The annual Homecoming football game will be Saturday and some stadium parking will overflow into Lot 7 which could fill-up the lot around noon. If the lot fills up while you're out for lunch, you can park in any other campus lot as well when you return.

FOOD OPTIONS

There are no off-campus restaurants within a brief walking distance of Hyland Hall, however, several fast food options are within a short driving distance of about one mile (McDonalds, Qdoba, Jimmy Johns, Rocky's, Culvers, Taco Bell, and Subway). Also, Jimmy John’s will deliver to campus. Jimmy Johns262-473-6100.
