Broadcasting Information All Novice and Varsity Broadcasting Contestants will be required to use the following information: Round 1 News Program - Target Time 5 minutes The News Program must consist of the following: a music lead-in & lead-out of the contestant's choice, b international, national & state news not less than 48 hours older than the beginning of the tournament. c a 30-60 second commercial on Crest 3D White Toothpaste d sports e weather Round 2 Editorial - the contestants will be given material and 30 minutes prep. time to write a 2 minute target speak time editorial. Round 3 On-the-Spot - the contestants will be given an action picture with a caption published not more than 10 days prior to the tournament. 2 minutes prep. 2 minutes target speak time. Round 4 Radio Program - the contestants will be given new news copy & they will have 30 minutes prep. time to create a Radio Program that includes segments of that news, their commercial on Crest 3D White Toothpaste and their 2 minute editorial. IHSFA Rules for the Radio Program are as follows: The contestant will re-use the Original Editorial (from Round 2 of this tournament), and the Commercial and Music lead-in/lead-out from the preliminary round 1. The contestant will be given 30 minutes in which to select and order the content, and edit and rehearse the final seven-minute program. The news copy may be cut, but may not be rewritten or updated. The program must include all of the following elements: news copy, original editorial (from state semi-final), commercial copy (from preliminary rounds), and music copy (from preliminary rounds), in addition to sign on, sign-off and transitions. The target time for this broadcast is seven minutes.
